Happy Holidays all as I just got back to Maryland from California; yeah I went to see my Maryland Terps get destroyed by Cal. A lot went on while I was gone this weekend and I wanted to touch base on a few issues..

*The Richard Seymour trade was a blockbuster in my opinion. The Patriots defense is losing it's star power in Mike Vrabel, Rodney Harrisson, Teddy Bruschi, and now Seymour. The bad news is that the moves will give the Patriots the needed cap room to lock up Vince Wilfork who I would LOVE to see in a Dolphins uniform. This move really hurts the Patriots chances of being as "great" as everyone is expecting them to be. Could they be switching to a 4-3 defense? The talent on their line seems to make me think that way. Ron Brace is a 2nd round pick they drafted out of Boston College who could team up to be one heck of an interior line. Ty Warren and newly acquired Derrick Burgess could be ends in the 4-3 defense. Just a thought. It is a good move by the Pats though because the Raiders will have a top 5 pick in 2011 and that could land them Da'Quan Bowers, Eric Berry, or even Julio Jones. Seymour is not happy about the move at all.

*David Martin placed on the IR ending his season as a Dolphin. It was intially reported that he was released but placing him on the IR is practically the same thing as he is a free agent after this season. Martin made some big plays for us last season which included that amazing catch and run for a score against the 49ers. Joey Haynos, John Nalbone, and the newly acquired Davon Drew really have their work cut out for them.

*I found it interesting that we put a claim in for Yamon Figures who was a big play kick returner for the Baltimore Ravens.

*Shawn Merriman arrested? I didn't even know he was dating Tila Tequilla but I think this latest blunder equals lights out in San Diego. Merriman is a free agent after this season and I think the Chargers will not make a push to resign him. They drafted Larry English this April who will take over that spot and I am wondering what kind of market there will be for Merriman. Parcells was very high on him despite selecting Demarcus Ware but could his legal and health issues raise a red flag? I am sur it does but Merriman is perfect for our defense as an Outside pass-rushing linebacker. Just some food for thought.

* No real surprises on the roster cuts for me. Lex Hilliard making it was a bit of a surprise but nothing stands out

*I have a feeling Matt Roths' playing days as a Miami Dolphin are over. He was placed on the PUP which means he cannot return to week 7 and this is a contract year for him. I know our front office won't make him a fair contract offer consider the fiasco he pulled this off-season. We never did get full clarity on what the injury was or how it was caused. All I can say is Thank God for Jason Taylor.

* A crazy weekend in College Football. The thing that impressed me most was the fire-power of the Notre Dame offense. Jimmy Clausen looked very good and Michael Floyd looked like the best player in the nation. Golden Tate is a good one too. I cannot believe Oklahoma lost as I thought they would compete with Florida for the National Title picture. It's not over yet but they have zero margin for error. The players who stood out to me this weekend were....

*Michael Floyd-Wide Receiver-Notre Dame
*Kyle Rudolph-Tight End-Notre Dame
*Jimmy Clausen-Quarterback-Notre Dame
*Jahvid Best-Running Back-California
*Syd'Quan Thompson-Cornerback-California
*Jonathan Dwyer-Running Back-Georgia Tech
*Robert Griffin III-Quarterback-Baylor
*Julio Jones-Wide Receiver-Alabama
*Rolando McClain-Middle Linebacker-Alabama
*Eric Decker-Wide Receiver-Minnesota.

We are counting days until the Falcons.. I will have a full preview on this game upcoming...

I've thrown it out there several times in the last few months that while most people like to bash on Jimmy Clausen....I'm probably in the minority when it comes to him...

I thought he really turned the corner in his development at the end of last season....and that he was poised to have a big season and establish himself as a legitimate big time NFL prospect in his junior year...

Clausen is my top junior QB prospect....I like him a little better than Jevan Snead....for a few reasons...

Michael Floyd, Julio Jones, A.J. Green, and Malcolm Williams will makeup one of the strongest WR classes at the top we've ever seen should they all come out after next year in 2011...

Jordan Shipley continues to dominate as well and really put on show Saturday....one of the best route runners in the country IMO...

Tennessee has a handful of incredible freshmen at the skill positions that look like they'll be players as well...

Alabama has a sophomore running back by the name of Mark Ingram who will be hearing his name announced in the 1st round in 2011....215 pound workhorse...stud..

I'm curious to see how Matt Barkley performs in the 'Shoe in his first road start in a hostile environment...

The patriots have no depth now whatsoever. The Dline was there strongest group. Not anymore. Just that simple.

Actually I just read over on a Patriots forum last week that they have already switched to a 4-3 defense.
