1. Swagger - This is something that has been lacking for quite some time. The intensity is just not there on game day. Everyone's looking indifferent, lost, heads hanging, or no emotion at all. You just don't see that from the best teams. We need to hit people in the mouth, intensity, an identity. This team has none of that. I keep hearing that the 'trifecta' wants to instill this smashmouth philosophy, but something sure has gotten lost in between the players and the front office.
2. Field General - What does every elite team have? Colts, Indy, NE, etc... A big time QB. You either have it or you don't, and right now we are severely lacking that. We've seen the big pass play once this season, on blown coverage. Objectively, I think Henne has a very good arm, but he misses far too much. Accuracy, vision, pocket presence, composure, the ability to make a big play consistently... We've been missing that since #13 was behind center, obviously. IMO, picking Long over Ryan is a defining moment for this 'trifecta'. Henne hasn't shown half the ability Ryan has, albeit with a weak supporting cast but not showing us that he can be a leader like Ryan or have natural pocket awareness (stepping into sacks, failing to throw the ball away), and then the pick 6's. His erratic passing leaves a lot to be desired, and that's not something you teach.
3. Game planning and coaching - This team has been outcoached for a majority of this season, and most evidently in big games. This team has failed in such a big way to beat any contenders. Team has lost to ARI, BAL (twice), NE (w/Brady), ATL, INDY, and NO under the 'trifecta's' watch. So we can beat all the mediocre/average teams, but elite football teams aren't built solely to win the easy ones. Simply put, this team has failed tremendously to beat teams in the upper echelon. Obviously talent is a big reason why, but it's inexcusable to lose every game to the elite teams, not to mention blow leads (some big) against many of these teams. This comes down to the coaching staff being outcoached consistently against the top teams, and the inability to adjust and adapt to tough situations.
I've seen Jimmy, Shula, Wanny, Saban, Cam... and now Sparano and IMO we're seeing the same formulas under Sparano that we saw under many of the previous coaches. Win the easy ones, lose the tough ones, and fail to outcoach and outplay teams for 60 minutes. We've been seeing this team blow leads, fail to hold leads, and shoot themselves in the foot for years and years. Changing this will be a huge step going forward for this franchise, and I'm not convinced this trifecta will get it done.
