The whole offseason everyone's been talking about what our needs are.Based on that everyone's making mocks or predicting who we'll take, not only at 25 but the whole 9 picks....most people here think we'll take a corner, an OLB, a WR and a NT with our top 4 picks......think that way and you'll be disapointed.....Bill,Jeff and Tony believe in bringing in the most talent they can get to compete and who can blame them? When you start drafting for "need" you miss on talent and that's when you get in trouble. If the best player on the board at 25 is an OT then that could be the pick.....if there's a RB they really like at 44 that could be the pick.....I know Parcells wants the next LT at OLB but he won't take the 36 best player on his board at 25.....when you're building a team like he's trying to do you get all the great players you can get...you don't go for need when you have 5 or 6 holes....now if you're one player away I could see them going for that player they need but this weekend we're going with the best players on our board so expect us not take players that will surprise you but in the end it'll make us a better team.Of course this is just my opinion and is ok if you guys think that the big 3 will go for "need" over more talented players.

Disagreed somewhat

If the best player on the board at 25 is an OT I seriously doubt they take him.. we just took Long and resigned Carey. We dont need a 1st round OT to sit on the bench.

Other than OT, I can agree with the BPA deal

but what if they take that OT and move Carey to guard?...that could be in their eyes and great o-line for years to come....and all 3 of them love to draft big o-linemen.....I don't really think we'll go o-line at 25 either but would not be shocked if we do.

Carey is better suited for Guard. If William Beatty, Eden Britton are still on the board and all the USC LB are gone we could take one of them. Which if they play like predicted we will have the best Oline in Football. Worse case scenario did you guys just see what Bufflalo got in return from Philly for Peters. We could groom a OT from the draft and trade him to a team thats really needs a LT. They are hard to come by. So if we had 2 really good OT that could both play and excel at LT we are in great shape. Most teams dont even have 1 good LT. I hope Vonte Davis or Malcolm Jenkins falls to us. If either one of them fall to us then they are prob going to be BPA and they will also fill a need.

I think this is a better reality check..

This team is still trying to put the pieces in place, we don't have the luxury of getting "great depth" with our first round pick when we have other holes to fill.

While I agree that they should be taking the best player available, I think that we can cross an OL off the list at 25. They are going to want someone who can contribute right away and I don't think moving Carey to guard is something in their plans.

I would be fine with ANY position picked at 25, just as long as it isn't on the offensive line. We resigned Carey, we signed Grove, and we signed Berger for depth. We also have Donald Thomas coming off injury. I think if we draft OL, it will be in the later rounds.

Need is a factor in the first 3 rounds. Don't make the mistake of thinking it's not. On day two, yes it becomes the best player on the board type of draft.

I disagree with that simply because Coach Sporano Said We "NEED" pass rushers....i would bet my whole salary for a year that we get 3 or 4 in this draft-

that my compadre would be drafting on need...not BPA

I think for the most part you always draft the best player available. It is better to be able to deal from a position of strength rather than from weakness.

Not necessarily

If they are the BPA according to our board then its not by need, but by BPA.. THAT just happened :gonzo:

I agree completely. I hope the Fins will simply take the best player available strategy regardless of need. If you have a player ranked as the 15th best player and you can get him at the 25th pick you take him instead of taking someone ranked as the 44th best player available based on need. The bottom line is quality is quality. Who cares if you already have an OT? If you can get another great OT you take him. Besides you can always make trades that can only help your team if you have talent to trade. If Andre Smith falls to the Dolphins you take him. If the BPA when the Fins pick is a TE--you take him whether you really need him or not. I really hope the Fins trade down and pick up a few more picks myself. I really believe the Dolphins are going to be drafting a few players that a lot of people won't like. We shall see.

What happens when Center is the BPA for our first 3 picks, wow, atleast we'll have great depth there lol.

When your FO believes in defense first mentality and our biggest weakness last year was the overall pass rush I bet BPA on their draft board has more OLB's, ILB's, DL and CB's then most other boards.

Amen. I have been saying this to a bunch of people. The Dolphins have too much money tied up in their offensive line already. I would not be surprised if they took a player at any other position, but offensive line just does not make sense financially. I could even see the Dolphins taking a running back in the first round before they take an offensive lineman.

I could certainly see if P.Loadholt was available at 56 that he might very well be the pick but anything earlier for Oline is foolishness.

well, good points from everyone and nobody's blasting anyone for thinking different....it'll be intersting to see what we actually do today and tomorrow.
