I look at this trade in a very positive light.

The biggest thing is that everyone seems to be overlooking is that this team is more than just a QB away from being a Super Bowl contender. We still need additional OL help, tons of secondary help, LB help etc.

The two QBs were the tops in Free Agency. They both have been great at times and both have been inconsistent. They both has major injuries.

In the end we got the guy who really wanted to be here, and who will give us the cap space to find the other pieces we need. In addition to Daunte we can now go after a Mawaee, etc. We can also now focus our draft on some young defensive talent.

I admire that Saban got tired fo being Brees' suitor and took control of the team. It makes no sense bankrupting the future for one player when we need so much. Saban is smart. Malarky is smart, and Mortenson of ESPN reports that Linehan and Saban spoke about Culpepper and Linehan endorsed the guy. That is three guys who know a hell of a lot more about NFL offensive talent than any of us do.

I say welcome to our new QB and I can't wait to see what happens next!

Mawaee has already signed with another team, but we got what we needed for a small price. We needed an upgrade at QB and got it.

Other possibilities prove the injury isn't as big as people make it out to be.
Look at the other options we could have had:
-Brees: Costed more, obviously didn't have his heart in the dolphins and winning a championship and same injury problems (if not worse).

Drafting a QB: A DRAFTED QUARTERBACK WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO PLAY IN THE FIRST FEW GAMES. We'd have to start gus anyways, no drafted QB would start right away for this team with real playoff hopes next year. It would be the same as if they were injured for the first half of the season.
-Trading up for Lienart/Cutler/Young: With what? What ammo do we have to give up that wouldn't be a key part of our team? I would not be willing to trade a key player to trade for someone who has proven nothing on a pro level.
-Picking up a player in the 2nd round or later: We're basically using that pick to get an already established player in the NFL rathre than rolling the die on a player we don't know if he can play or not.

Let us not forget that Culpepper WANTS to play for the Dolphins.

I am so stoked about this move. Culepper is 10x the athletic talent that Brees is which is to say his ceiling is way higher. He'd be a former MVP if it wasn't for Manning's insane 2004 season. The knee will heel, the arm is already to go and it's a cannon. Leadership abilities are a concern of mine but with the right coach.....and we have that.....I'm expecting him to blossom there to.

Man! Whatta an awesome day to be a Miami Dolphins fan! Atta be Saban!!!

I just found out a little while ago and I have to say.....what a surprise.
As much as I am more fearful of the injury than disappointed like many others here. I believe Daunte is a great QB and his deep ball is one of the best in the league. Many Brees fans couldnt say that.
His mobility gave him an edge, but that may be gone now, regardless his arm is very healthy. Other than his knee he is solid and can take a hit.
I hope he does well and gets acclimated as quickly as possible.
We do have to start the season with Ferrotte if Im not mistaken.
So it looks like Daunte, Ferrotte, Lemmon, and Berlin Practice squad.
Another point many have forgotten about the 2nd round pick is that we can easily afford to pay the 1st round pick salary. If we had the 1st and second, it could have been a big cap hit. Im sure that this point was mentioned behind closed doors. We are still under the cap and can bring in more talent.
This offense is going to be a nightmare for defensive coaches.

I think the key ingredient to the aquisition of Daunte was the fact that he's been playing in the same offensive system we used, previously installed by Scott Linehan now known as our own "Dolphin Offense."

Aquiring Brees would've meant a long rehab, followed by Brees having to get familiar with not only the players, but the system too. Add to the fact that nobody knows whether or not Brees can make the kind of recovery a guy like Chad Pennington did not, it wouldn't have been smart to break the bank at $60 million for him. Let's not forget as far as the rehab goes, Brees indicated there's a chance he might not even be able to play in 2006.

So let's summarize that: There's a chance that at $60 million, he might not be able to take the field until 2007, at which point he'd still need quite a bit of time to get accustomed to his new teammates and system. That my friends, makes absolutely no sense on the Dolphins end, not at that kind of money.

I think Daunte helped himself out with this franchise by going on record saying he wanted to be here and was willing to help out the team financially. I'm looking forward to seeing what transpires.

In time the haters will realize that there is the need of the whole team and that from a cap position and available talent position this was a good move.
It is a definite upgrade from what we have had for the last 6-7 years.

Daunte is a huge upgrade for the Phins. Nick Is a Wizzard whit this move on DC leaves us some scrach to get other players.

Go

The bottom line was Drew did what was best for HIM, while Daunte wanted to play for the team that wanted him the most. Drew got greedy, Daunte put the team ahead of his own wallet. Enjoy the gumbo in NO Brees and hope you don't wonder "what if" when you are 4-12 next year.

I like this move as well even if Culpepper isn't 100% until the 2007 season when I think the Dolphins will be serious Super Bowl contenders. They still have a lot of holes to fill and probably won't get them all filled by this coming year. That is okay with me though because I know were on the right track now.

The fact that Peppers contract only costs us 2mil this year is awsome..

This team does not need "tons" of secondary help. Perhaps upgrading one safety spot and getting a quality nickel back. The O-line is still young and will improve each year. Hadnot and Carey are entering their 3rd year.
The team is not perfect, but let's not exaggerate.

I love the deal all the way down the board.

1. Saved all kinds of cap space to sign others.
2. DC already knows our system.
3. Great arm.
4. He wants to play here.
5. A 2nd round pick for a pro-bowl QB (What we gave up for DC is where we would have picked Croyle. I hope all would agree DC is better than Croyle).
