The way we approach the ball and send the faux kicker left- great. We now have SIX players on the left side to their FOUR, plus our kicker is approaching the ball from right to left for a "normal" onsides kick that he's probably practiced a thousand times.....

BUT.... WAIT!!!! let's stop the kick in mid-motion and pivot back to the RIGHT where we have 4 players against their 4. And of course pivoting left to right at last second before kicking is the right way to get off a high-percentage onside kick that angles to the sideline, bouncing in the air.

Or, maybe not.

That was just horrible horrible horrible over-cuteness....

Wouldn't of mattered. I could of kicked a better onside kick than Sturgis.

Sturgis cannot get that 1 hop like Stoyo used to. He kicked it right into the Denver players chest. He has no ball skills for a kicker and cannot reach the end zone regularly.
He sucks and if the game hinges on him, we will lose most of the time.

I think it would have been more effective if Stutgis sold the kick to the left side more. I didn't even notice he changed direction until I saw the replay. Maybe making a more dramatic leg swing would have gotten them a half step off?

Didn't help that he kicked it right frigging to him though. Get rid of Sturgis he's unreliable and he doesn't get enough touch backs.

Poor design. The initial surprise would last a fraction of a second. The lack of movement on the ball allows for an easy recovery by the receiving team. Maybe i haven't watched many onside kicks but it seems the most successful method is the way Mare used to do it. Line everybody up on one side and drive the ball down and try and get a high bounce and create a jump ball

Well, you can't line everybody on one side anymore- you have to have at least 5 on a side.

but I can't understand how they can't do the math and kick a "normal" kick to a side where they have a 6 vs. 4 advantage. That was a HUGE opportunity wasted.

Didn't realize that. Good to know.

He didn't change directions at all, he did a rabona. Which is a couple of orders of magnitude worse. Our kicker who can barely kick field goals thinks he can pull off a rabona onside kick. How he managed to convince the coaches to let him attempt it is beyond me.

When I saw the rabona, I immediately threw down my remote and went to go do laundry. I was done. I saw that disaster coming from a mile away. Rizzi is an idiot.

He kicked it with his left leg back across his body. You can't get any drive on the ball. It was an easy recovery for Anderson.

That was one of the worst onsides kicks I have ever seen in my life.
