Isn't the second alternative what we had the last 10 years with the exception of 2008? Missing the playoffs with a chance to do it right? How's that worked out?Not necessarily. Depends whether you think this organization is getting there because the plan is working or they're just fortunate, and whether you think it's going to keep improving.
Put it this way: Would you rather make the playoffs this season, lose in the first round, have next year's team take a step back, then probably clean house and go through another rebuild or partial rebuild that keeps them out of the playoffs and mediocre-to-bad for another three years, or would you rather miss out on the playoffs, make necessary changes, have a higher draft pick, better resources to construct a better team and potentially better evaluators and coaches to do that, leading to a team that makes the playoffs three times in the next five years and has a better chance to win there? I'd take the second.
I'd love to make the playoffs. Who knows what happens there. The problem is: I can't see it with this team. We're just not good enough. Players, Coaches, General Manager, not a single one is playoff-worthy this year.
This is how this season will turn out: we will win against Jets, sneak by the Steelers, and just when every other fan gets his hopes up for a playoff run we will lose to the Patriots. We will be 7-7 with the Bills and Jets coming up and we will lose those two in heartbreaking fashion to finish 7-9 yet again. That's my Miami Dolphins.
