Chimdi Chekwa, CB
The old adage, “you can’t make the club in the tub” certainly rings true when it comes to Chekwa. The fourth-year cornerback missed the majority of camp with a thigh injury and was unable to prove himself worthy of a roster spot. A football player’s greatest ability is their availability and Chekwa unfortunately was not available because of his injury.
DeAndre Coleman, DT
Coleman would be best suited to play in a 3-4 where he’s taking up multiple blockers as a five-technique. He’s the type of lineman that can be used to keep linebackers clean, but in Vance Joseph’s penetrating scheme he simply wasn’t a fit. Coleman has the ability to play in the NFL, but he must find a defense that accentuates his skill set.
Shamiel Gary, S
Gary had a very good preseason and he did a very good job covering tight ends and closing down on underneath routes. Gary also showed very good recognition as he was able to come down and make plays in the run game as well.
A.J. Hendy, S
Hendy is another safety that had a very good camp but it was not enough to make the 53-man roster. Hendy had an interception against the Giants and was seemingly around the football throughout camp. The Dolphins will likely choose between Gary and Hendy for a spot on the practice squad, and the Dolphins can’t go wrong with either player.
