I think that Miami is in a rebuilding phase, but are afraid to just come out and say it. Philbin wants a more talented team built through the draft. We need to upgrade the secondary and the o-line among other positions just to start the process. Yes, they were intending to get a franchise QB this year. Unfortunately, a few QBs decided to stay in school, and the team screwed itself by winning just enough games to miss out on the top 2 QBs this year. There are no franchise QBs available to us in the 1st round this year, so they're probably going to draft other positions and wait until next year for a QB. I have no problem with Miami looking to rebuild the team; they haven't exactly been very good lately, have they? I only hope that Philbin is a better judge of QB talent and potential than what we've had in the past.
All of the fans who are going crazy over these moves are just impatient and want to win now. Miami was far from just being a franchise QB away from the playoffs. We have too many starters that would be back-ups on more talented teams. I agree with waiting on the QB position until 2013 when we can hopefully have a high enough pick to draft a top QB. Garrard, Moore, and ? should be good enough to get us through the next season while Philbin rebuilds. (I believe that Garrard is the most talented QB on the team and will start.) Between low cost free agent signings and the release of veterans who won't fit Philbin's plans, Miami should be in great shape salary cap wise next year. If they had signed Manning, Flynn, or Smith to a huge contract it would have hurt the team in the long run, since none of them are IMO the future of this franchise. I want them to improve the roster, and I'll look forward to them being competitive next year. I've waited this long, another year won't matter.
