Heres some notes after reviewing the game.

Notes DEFENSE
1st Running play by Patriots. - Dolphins start the game with 3-4 look with Langford/Solai/Starks and Porter and Taylor on edges and Akin and Crowder in the middle. Smith and Davis manning the corners and Wilson and Bell at Safetys. Nothing new. Crowder stops the first run and play of the game with Langford. Solai gets locked with a 1 on 1. Ayodele plugged the backside cutback and Crowder filled the gap with Langford helping. Starks gets pushed off the ball and the secondary is a non-factor.

1st passing play by Patriots - Patriots bring Welker in motion and have a passing play. Solai gets a GREAT jump. Collapses the pocket in a hurry by himself. Porter over-runs the play and is behind Brady. Starks falls down. Good coverage by the secondary. Patriots get the matchup they wanted with Welker vs Crowder. Welker runs an arrow and Crowder bites HARD on the first move. 1st down patriots with Sean Smith making the tackle with Jason Taylor.

- Solai makes the play on the screen on the 3rd play of the game. Pushes the Patriots center all the way to Faulk and causes Faulk to go outside where help was. Great play by Solai.

- Solai gets locked 1 on 1 often and early. The line does a good job of collapsing the lanes once the run is established.

- Wake gets held on the 3rd down converted run. He actually might have stopped the play before the 1st. McDaniel gets destroyed by a double team. Crowder and Torbor take good angles but there is no help backside and the 1st goes there.

- Porter and Starks get great pressure on the Moss TD long ball, but a little too late. Ryan Baker makes an appearance and actually got decent pressure, but fell down. Terrible job by Dolphins secondary. Wilson did a terrible job on this play. Davis followed him the entire way inside. Bad job.

- Solai has really really really good sideline to sideline speed for a defensive lineman.

- Merling sighting. Gets pushed off the ball easily.

- Porter is held on a passing down by the LT. Not sure if he would of gotten there, but nonetheless held. Ayodele is a bad open field tackler.

- Crowder gets owned on a couple of plays ran right at him. Bell is there to clean up his mess though.

- 3RD TIME Solai flies to the sideline and disrupts the play on the Welker screen. He really is physically gifted. Crowder saves a huge play.

- Sean Smith is soft, does not even want to make the tackle on the screen.

- Wake ALMOST ALMOST 99.8% gets to Brady on his 2nd play of the game. Thats a QB pressure in 1 snap.

- Ayodele is pretty good in run support, doesnt get enough credit for filling the gaps.

- Stark gets owned when put at NT for Faulks TD. Crowder and actually everyone on the Dolphins gets owned.

- Smith gets laid out by Aiken on a Welker pass. I mean LAID out.

- Taylor is still really good at shedding blocks. Hes doing it with ease this game when getting blocked on runs.

- Vontae Davis is really physical as evident when stopping Faulk with Gibril Wilson ( Great play by him) on the 3rd and less than 5.

- Yermiah Bell has LEGIT 4.3 speed. He almost caught Aiken on that long td pass to Aiken. And he was 15 yards back.

- Wilson is great against short passes and the run, but when they put Bell as the in-box safety, they need Clemons playing centerfield, not Wilson.

- Jason Taylor is a complete NON-FACTOR in the pass rush game. He is doing really well in the run game, but terrible in the passing game. He gets next to zero pressure.

- I know everyone loves Wake. Here are his stats at the end of the game
5 plays, 2 QB Pressures, 1 hold on the o-lineman on him to prevent a negative run play, negating a run play, and one non-factor. That leads to 4 out of 5 positive plays. Yet only 5 plays.

Randy Starks is having a Pro-Bowl season. He is the best player on the Miami Dolphins defense.

Notes OFFENSE
- Bess is really REALLY crafty. Starts routes out slow and knows when to throw his head and sinks his hips.

- Henne has a cannon. A legit cannon. He rifles the ball into small windows.

- The only sack given up by the Dolphins was Henne's fault and almost a fumble by Henne. Henne needs to throw it away.

- If Pat White hands off the ball to Hilliard, it goes for a HUGE gain. Pulling Garner creates a massive hole for Hilliard. Even if Williams gets the pitch, its a modest gain. Good play call and design. Not Hennings fault.

- Pass Protections is good, giving Henne ample time. Berger is holding his own as are the rest of the line.

- O-line gets push on running plays in the beginning, but it seems like Ricky isnt running with a purpose.

- Hennes deep ball to Hartline was 100% on target. Hartline didnt come up with it.

- Henne is doing a great job standing in the pocket and keeping the plays alive. Something he was not doing at all before.

- Henne is getting the ball away quickly when he is getting blitzed.

- Dolphins running a lot of unbalanced line on pass plays. Actually pretty smart idea by Dolphins as Patriots like stacking a gap and getting isolations with players on the outside.

- Camarillo is so valuable. Providing a huge block on Merriweather on the Bess screen. Even Ginn gets in on the blocking.

- Terrible Pass by Henne on the interception to Merriweather. Ginn was wide open after blowing by his man Butler. This is why Ginn is so valuable. On a sidenote, Wilfork tries leveling Henne and Henne doesnt even care.

- Henne has a cannon, yet again I am saying it. He throws a beautiful spiral with velocity.

- Ricky almost breaks a deep one if he doesnt have Berger laying on the ground, running it to him.

- Ricky had an excellent day blocking. He picks up blitzers like no other in this game.

- Pat White's 2nd play wasnt his fault or a bad play call again. Fasano screws up the play by letting his man in the backfield. White could have had a TD if assignments were not botched.

Wow. Great analysis. I didn't get a chance to see the game so it was incredibly informative.

Bottom lines: Defense
Put Wake in more
Offense
Every game we gain more confidence and experience to make plays

I really believe next year we will be in the "elite team" category.

This is just a thought but is Tony Sparano keeping Wake on the bench to maintain the locker room unity while two former pro bowlers continue to decline but keep up team moral in the locker room with a very young team. we all know that wont win the SB this year no matter what he does. What if he can squeeze the last drops of skill out of the vets while developing the future starters for years to come. does this help the dolphins or hurt?

Good question, not sure though.

maybe wake is just that bad at run support...

There may be some truth to that after watching him get juked out of his shoes by the Jets' punter. Anyway, he is working hard and I can't wait for him to take over the OLB position only when he is ready. Hopefully it is sooner than later.

It really shouldn't matter as Joey Porter is almost just as bad in the open field.

That is true, but it is not a matter of who is the better tackler between Wake and Porter. I was being sarcastic on my previous post.

Besides the fact it is obvious that Wake is clearly the best pass rusher on the field bar none, and it is evident that Porter and Taylor both do not have the explosiveness they use to have

What I take from the article, Porter and Taylor have one thing that Wake doesn't have yet. And that is the football IQ to play the OLB spot. Wake is learning a new position, he never had to read and understand formations before until now. Until he learns how to recognize formations, he will never be able to put himself in the right position to make plays on running downs. This is what they are waiting for. He needs to learn what his responsiblities are when the offense lines up in certain formations. Once he gets that down, he will be a force on the field.
