I know it is 5 days removed from the Saban red Flag incident, but the damn league and media keep harping away at, so for theraputic reasons, I am puring my opinion about the matter

The Saban Red flag incident is 99.9% NFLs problem to correct, not Sabans.
League rules clearly dictate that the NFL coach must throw the flag before the ball is snapped. Black and white rule, no gray in the interpretation.

Nick did so.

A NFL record 19.3 million tuned into NBC to watch the opener, and we all saw Saban throw the flag before the ball was snapped. You mean to tell me not one of the dozen or so league officials in the booth upstairs did not see the flag thrown? Why did they not intervene? The rules do not tell the coach he should throw the red flag with eagerness and Exaggerated enthusiasm, it says he should throw the flag before the ball is snapped, in which he did.
The good news is both the NFL and head coaches will learn from the mistake and I hope will be able to avoid such blantant errors in the future. Saban followed the rules as insribed by league officials. But it is not Sabans fault the league refused to take accountability for the mistake. Again, the rules do not dictate how the flag should be thrown, but only that it should be thrown before the snap, and Saban did what he was instructed.

OK I feel better, thank you finheaven for giving me a place to vent.

One note on what you said.........it was widely reported following the incedent that coaches were told that it was their responsibility to get a referee's attention if they wish to challenge a play. I recall hearing this during the broadcast that they could leave the sideline, run down the sideline etc. IF Saban was told this, he should have done so.

That is not to say that the rule isn't completely stupid.....there should be someone either in the booth or on the field assigned to watch for the red flag....but the way it was described, coaches were informed of their responsibility to attract an official's attention.

On a related topic, I read on PFT that they will assign an official to keep an eye out for the challenge flag following a TD.....too little, too late for Miami fans (and Cowboy fans)......but at least they're trying to address it.

Saban blew that one, plain and simple. The rules let coaches leave the coaches box to throw the flag and he didn't, plus he threw it behind the officials. Plus the officials held the x-point try a little longer. Saban just blew that one. It's over and now lets look forword to Buffalo.

Plus why was Saban not yelling and trying to get the officials attention? He was mum on the sidelind and was just pointing at the flag? Looked as though there was dog poop on the field and he didn't want to step in it.

Ask yourself this question, why did the NFL do away with the buzzer? It's because the coaches were misusing it. The NLF doesn't have a problem here, it's the coaches, they have to know the rules here and Saban didn't.

Your opinion is precisley the point Im trying to make.
So your saying because he was not excited enough, he did not reserve to get the review.

What matters is he followed the rules and the officals in the booth who saw it did nothing.

Im over it now.

Dolphins will wipe the field with the Bills this weekend.

I think the head ump should have to wear headphones so that the coach can clearly tell him he wants to challenge a call, and not just throw a flag.

Al Michaels was talking about that last night during the Indy/NYG came. Its because it malfunctioned so much it proved to be ineffective.

You could always throw the flag at the official. Maybe hit him in the eye like a ref did on Orlando Brown.

I blame Saban..plain and simple. The refs don't have eyes behind their heads and he tossed that flag out like a little girl.....He shoulda ran on to the field yelling if he had to....I'll bet the next time he throws that flag into the middle of the field.

I say the NFL creates a red flag launcher, that way Nick Saban can shoot the red flags at the back of referee's heads when they are not looking.

any bets on the "next" time...I bet we get to see his "burst" :goof:
