I know it is 5 days removed from the Saban red Flag incident, but the damn league and media keep harping away at, so for theraputic reasons, I am puring my opinion about the matter
The Saban Red flag incident is 99.9% NFLs problem to correct, not Sabans.
League rules clearly dictate that the NFL coach must throw the flag before the ball is snapped. Black and white rule, no gray in the interpretation.
Nick did so.
A NFL record 19.3 million tuned into NBC to watch the opener, and we all saw Saban throw the flag before the ball was snapped. You mean to tell me not one of the dozen or so league officials in the booth upstairs did not see the flag thrown? Why did they not intervene? The rules do not tell the coach he should throw the red flag with eagerness and Exaggerated enthusiasm, it says he should throw the flag before the ball is snapped, in which he did.
The good news is both the NFL and head coaches will learn from the mistake and I hope will be able to avoid such blantant errors in the future. Saban followed the rules as insribed by league officials. But it is not Sabans fault the league refused to take accountability for the mistake. Again, the rules do not dictate how the flag should be thrown, but only that it should be thrown before the snap, and Saban did what he was instructed.
OK I feel better, thank you finheaven for giving me a place to vent.
