It's almost a done deal. Will be a game between two AFC teams.

PFT has a longer read on the story.

I don't know about that. Maybe an exhibition game, but not a regular season game.

never happen

Everyone said that last year about the Mexico game!

By the end of this decade you will see REGULAR SEASON NFL games played in Japan, England, and Canada. Mexico has already got one. This is what the NFL wants in the worst way, it's gonna happen!

well the NFL has to find a team willing to do give up a home game...and I don't see why a team would want to do that, that is the problem.

Mexico also has a much larger fan following than England, and it's geographical proponents are much more beneficial, but I agree with you. The NFL is trying hard to take this game to the world. I'd be surprised if it was a regular season game though. The pre-season and exhibition games seem more likely. Dunno.

The AFC only teams I could see doing this would be the Raiders(early in the year when the A's are still playing baseball there) or Jacksonville. The Bengals would have been a possibility before they got good, but now that they are good, they would not give up a home game.

We had some high ranking nfl office guy talking about it at half time during the probowl, said it would be decided one way or the other in the next 6 weeks and it would definately be 2 afc teams in week 3 or 4 of the regular season, also whichever teams played would have a bye week the week after

If this is true -- admittedly a big if -- it will be Jacksonville giving up the home game. They're no longer drawing flies to Alltel Stadium. Raiders would be a bigger overseas draw but Al Davis would demand too much from the league to make the trip, plus it is a much longer flight. My guess is Jacksonville against Houston or Tennessee. If they put a marquee team against them, they are almost obligated to give them a bye the following week for sake of competitive balance.

I also think a game in England would pose more problems than Mexico. I mean, yeah, London has sanitary drinking water, but it's also six hours ahead of the U.S. east coast during daylight savings. It's not like they could fly over after their Friday night practice, do a walkthrough on Saturday, and play on Sunday with no ill effects.

It could work in England as long as they play the game in the evening in England because of their 6-7 hour time difference. I don't see it happening during the regular season though....too muchy travel for the teams involved....unlike Mexico which can be reached from most airports in 4-5 hours.

"As for the London game, Aiello said it remained under consideration. Commissioner Paul Tagliabue said it was unlikely the NFL would play a regular-season game outside the United States this season."

How exactly is this a done deal?

Half or MORE of the teams would give up a home game. Most teams don't sell out every game. It's a money maker for any team that says YES!
