I know you all know this, but it bares repeating. We are all so concerned, and in some instances with good reason about our secondary. After watching the game I saw some good and some bad in our coverage. Alot of it had to so with missed assignments but I think the biggest problem was the QB's getting too much time and way too many hreat passing lanes to throw through. I suspect that when the regular season starts we will see something ALOT different. We, right now are just showing our basic packages with a few rinckles thrown in. No surprises, no crazy stunts or blitzes that we have been hearing about in practice, no crazy formations and dropping line-backers...yet...Our defense will be predicated on confusing the QB and as importantly confusing the offesive lines pass and run protection schemes...this is where process is more important than the current product on the field. We all are constantly hearing and reading about the massive and complex playbook and ingenious defensive schemeing...have any of us seen it? No, why? Because, If you look for patterns in our coaches behavior from the press box to the playing field, he is very consistant! He tells you know more than he thinks you NEED to know and he is NEVER going to tip his hand on any team related issue. The same is happening on the field...Saban will play some basic formations that all the other formations and schemes are based upon. He will make sure all the guys are in the right position to make the read or the play - it is only after that, that he will show a few complex schemes to the opposition (game 4 and alittle of 5) in the pre-season. Saban has shown us that he will give nothing free to the opposition and that, my friends, is why I believe we need to sit back, relax and enjoy one of the most exciting pre-seasons in years...when was the last time you did not know what our team was going to do in any given situation?
