Rematch, Pavlik-Taylor II

saw the first one. awesome fight, can't wait for the rematch. also that night is the nba all-star weekend and tank abbot vs. kimbo slice.

imo, last fight taylor could've had him if he didn't let up. but, in the post fight interviews taylor talked about being more conservative. i think if taylor sheds that logic and just goes out there looking to trade punches, he'll win this fight easily.

To the contrary, he was over-anxious. After the knockdown in the second, he punched himself out trying to land the knockout blow. At the end of the round, it was Pavlik who was landing the heavy punches.

What Taylor needs to be is more patient with his punches inside. If he goes out there just looking to trade, he'll get knocked out. They're both big punchers. And neither of them will go out there looking to just bomb.

Pavlik surprisingly outboxed him last time. Taylor's got to figure out how to get around that jab.

Followed by Klitschko/Ibragimov next weekend. I think Taylor did punch himself out last fight. After a guy loses we hear the excuses; I really think the boxer says it to stroke their own ego. I doubt the fans by it. I think Taylor will win, which will set-up a 3rd fight.

Pavlik-Trinidad in the works

Well, that third fight might not happen right away.

Since the rematch is a non-title fight at 166, Pavlik will keep the title regardless. Arum is working on legit defenses with Felix Trinidad and Irish John Duddy at 160.

Either way, it looks like his next fight will be at Madison Square Garden. They want to have the Trinidad fight the day before Puerto Rican Day parade in NY.

I had it 115-113 Pavlik. Really good fight.

Taylor was much better this time. His back didn't touch the ropes until late in the 11th, when Pavlik hurt him and then landed a massive body shot that really zapped him. Taylor was very disciplined. He avoided the big shots and kept the fight in the middle of the ring.

Lots of rounds could go either way. Just depends on what you like. Taylor landed the heavier shots, but was inactive a lot. Pavlik never stopped punching, and his jab was deceptively effective until late, when the effects showed on Taylor's face. But he didn't really land big shots. Pavlik threw about 400 more punches.

Was a very tactical fight. Pavlik won the championship rounds.
