I was talking to one of my old dolphin buddies and he was telling me "Its kinda funny how everyone hated Ricky Williams for leaving the team back then, but I remember when Larry Czonka did the same thing he left for the world football league" and he also said Larry left in the dolphins during a time when we were rolling! just want to see what everyone else thought!!

Csonka Kiick and Morris all left at the same time.. but not one week before training camp because they were caught smoking pot. They were offered obscene amounts of money and Joe Robbie wouldn't match it.

i'm to young to even know what the feeling of Larry leaving felt like, but i knew when ricky left i really wasnt that pissed. think about it the year before we lost to the pats in the last game of the season because we decided to throw the ball with jay fiedler instead of running the ball with ricky and that was the year ricky lead the league in rushing yards. Pornstasche ran ricky into the ground. i couldnt be mad at him.

As much as we loved them, especially Zonk, you couldn't blame them when you look at what they were making at the time versus what the upstart WFL was offering.

It was nice that Zonk came back for that final year in 79' and had a pretty good final season.

Ricky Williams left the Dolphins because of his lack of morals, wanting to give up playing football to go smoke pot. Give up on his team mates so he didn't have to take a drug test. That's classless and selfish.

I'd never be angry at a player like Larry Csonka who left for more money because there are few people on this earth who wouldn't go wherever the money was higher, and the situation was better for themselves or their families.

how about a man who drank and partied and cheated until he ruined his family? Classless? Selfish? (I'm talking about the guy in your sig). ;)

It is morally wrong to quit on your teammates for pot but not for money? I don't get how some fans act as if the players owe their lives to them. Are they not allowed to live it as they see fit? Ricky has never been comfortable being the center of attention. He would be perfectly content doing his job and having people leave him the hell alone. I can't hate a guy who would rather live in a tent in Australia instead of wanting to be a millionaire celebrity athlete. Heck I think we all wish he could do just that. Stop doing the mundane things we have to do to survive and just live life how you see fit. Ricky didn't hurt anybody doing what he did. The timing of his departure was not the best but from my POV I would not want to live doing something I don't enjoy because others want me to. Life is too short.

Besides, ultimately his departure hastened the departure of Wanny which is what everyone wanted anyway. That doesn't happen if Ricky is still carrying the team on his overburdened back.

Yeah but Flair's problem may have been that he NEVER quit. He lived his on-air gimmick in his personal life. He was a limousine riding, jet flying son of a guy on and off the air. He played champion, and he made damn sure well that he dressed like a champion. Every dollar he earned he spent more than. Thats led to a lot of problems in his life, but to me it's not as bad as quitting on your team mates and the fans that support you for drugs.

Ricky left because we tried to kill him. Csonka left for money. Ricky went to India to find peace while Csonka bought a gun and went hunting for bambi out of season. The differance is Ricky carried a pathetic franchise singlehandedly and Csonka played on a allstar team with no cap and won a championship. That is the differance.

If ricky stayed pornstache may still have had a job. When I look at his stats Ricky took back 2 back pounding.

No it is not morally wrong to try and make the most money for your family and your kids. Never has been, never will be and not by any stretch of the imagination.

Warfield Not Morris!!

Mercury Morris did NOT leave for the World Football League in 1974.... Paul Warfield did along with Zonk and Kick!
