Sure, he wasn't beloved when he was here, but who else here has fond memories of KAJ? He may not have had the awesomeness of Ricky Williams or the quality running of Ronnie Brown, but he did produce around a thousand yard for several straight seasons, and avoided injury. Here's to you, KAJ!

I remember when Jimmy Johnson drafted him out of UCLA. He came in his rookie season and rushed for over a 1000 yds, but that was about it. I was really hoping he would've turned out to be our franchise running back at the time.

I'm not sure what happened to him after his 3rd year with the phins.

Yes I still have his jersey!

He was slow and could not break a tackle. His YPA was low,I
think...He got 1000 yds, because of his number of carries.
A degeneritive (sp?) knee cost him more years in the NFL.

It's Karim Abdul-Jabbar (or Abdul-Karim al-Jabbar).

The former Laker center sued him for name infringement or
something like that...and won.

When he converted to Islam, Sharmon Shah was given the name "Karim Abdul-Jabbar" by his Imam.

In 1998, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar filed a federal lawsuit against Karim, asking a judge to injuct him against using the name. He claimed there were too many similarities and that Karim was gravy-training (not a legal term) off the name. Both went to UCLA and both wore #33, though Karim said he chose the number because of Tony Dorsett (and that he'd worn the number since he was 8).

Kareem is weird.

The dude...not the name.

My uncle got me his autograph in '96. He did a signing with Mercury Morris and Jim Kiick and they signed 8x10 cards for him. He told me to pick which one I wanted and I picked Jabbar cuz he was a current player and my cousin and brother ended up with the other cards. I've regretted it ever since...

I was a fan too, but going as far as saying he produced for 'several straight seasons' is a bit of a stretch. As a rookie he rushed for 1116, followed by 892, 960, and then 10 games with Cleveland for only 350 along with a cup of coffee in Indy before hanging up the cleats.

16 TDs in his second year was nice though. Since he was a 3rd round pick in the first place, I was happy with the 3rd round pick in return for him!

I know this is not the right place but I have a framed poster of KAJ and have been wanting to sell it. It hangs in my office and I need to make room for my ZT fathead that is coming in. Please email me at askus@racefinders.com and I will send you pictures. Thanks and let's have a great season!!!
