Dan Marino owns the NFL record for consecutive games and consecutive passes without a sack, and no other quarterback before or since has ever even been in the same ballpark. Marino got sacked on September 25, 1988 in Indianapolis. He then played 19 consecutive games without getting sacked. He wasn’t sacked again until October 29, 1989 in Buffalo. Between sacks, he threw an incredible 759 passes.

To throw 759 passes without getting sacked is such an insane record that it looks like a typo. The team that has allowed the fewest sacks this year is the Saints, and Drew Brees has been sacked nine times while throwing 304 passes. Marino threw two and a half times that many passes and wasn’t sacked even once.

Man i never knew this. I knew Dans pocket awareness was crazy. For a guy who couldnt move outside the pocket was quite possibly the best moving inside it, but this is absolutely incredible. I dont think this will ever be broken.

Dan took a pounding standing in there. Even though he never took a lot of sacks he took his fair share of hits in the pocket. Held it until the deepest route was open whenever possible. Back when we scored TD's

rules were a lot different then too. Protecting the QB wasn't nearly as over the top as it is now. Took a lot of guts to stand there and get hit in those days.

People fail to realize that QBs in his era had to do accomplish what they did under much tougher circumstances

I remember the streak as I watched it when it happen. I mostly remember the games but didn't know it was that many passes. He had the quickest release ever imo.

He had the quickest release in the history of the NFL, amazing pocket awareness, and he also had a great pass pro OL

His ability to sense pressure and take a quick step up or to the side was amazing. Combine it with the blazing quick release...

There were some quality pass rushers in the AFC East back then too...Bruce Smith and Andre Tippett were in their prime, Gastineau and Lyons were finishing out for the Jets

What’s nuts about this streak was that it happened during an era when the o-line was the weakest of his career. Webb and Simms hadnt been drafted yet and Newman, Keuch, Stephenson (these guys he only had for a little bit) had been long retired.

Truly amazing. As others pointed out, he stood in there and got hit in the face while throwing the strike and didn’t get all whiney about it like Brady. You got a lick like that on Dan up the middle, he probably burned you down the seam anyway.

He had not only an incredible fast release he also drilled the passes into coverage no other QB would dare to throw on purpose. A defense could have had terrific coverage and while they close in on Marino and were thinking "I know we got him...I know we got him...." he made that impossible pass. "no you don't...no you don't.."

If Marino would have played under today's rules Brady would look like chicken **** next to Marino. And if Brady would have played in the 80s and 90s he'd be quitting after one season crying like a little baby.

I feel really bad for those who never seen him play or were to young to fully understand and enjoy his play.

It was because of his offensive line. The quarterback has basically nothing to do with whether a sack occurs.
