Barry Bonds failed a test for amphetamines last season and originally blamed it on a teammate, the Daily News reported Thursday.

When first informed of the positive test, Bonds attributed it to a substance he had taken from teammate Mark Sweeney's locker, the New York City newspaper said, citing several unnamed sources.



"I have no comment on that," Bonds' agent Jeff Borris told the Daily News on Wednesday night.

"Mark was made aware of the fact that his name had been brought up," Sweeney's agent Barry Axelrod told the Daily News. "But he did not give Barry Bonds anything, and there was nothing he could have given Barry Bonds."

Bonds, who has always maintained he never has tested positive for illegal drug use, is already under investigation for lying about steroid use.

Under baseball's amphetamines policy, which went into effect last season, players are not publicly identified for a first positive test. A second positive test for amphetamines results in a 25-game suspension. The first failed steroids test costs a player 50 games.

This reminds me of the last couple times Melo of the Nuggets has been busted with drugs in his car or at the airport and he lets one of his assistants take the fall for it......"That's not my stuff." Yeah right. :wink:
 
The funny thing is SF Giants can pull their offer because bonds hasnt signed it. They have agreed but he hasnt signed. Someone from MLB leaked this info , they dont want bond to break the record.
 
Can't take any responsibility for anything, always blaming someone else. I would have more respect for any steriod era ball player that came out and said that they actually used steriods. Takes a man to admit that you cheated. We all know alot of the players that took steriods, they just need to man up and admit they cheated.
 
This is a witch hunt at this point. The rule should state that if you test positive the first time it remains confidential.....unless your name is Barry Bonds!
 
Bonds' biggest issue has and always will be himself and his mouth! I think writers (aka voters) are waiting for the day to stick it to him. I dont think he is a lock for HoF in his 1st year of eligibility.

His mouth always has and always will be used against him. Blaming this latest stuff on a teammates bottle in a locker is a blatant stupid excuse!

No one is under the microscope more than he, and his answer is that he took a tablet from a teammates locker without knowing what it was???? Come on, Barry baby, you have to do better than that.

This guy has more "entourage folks" doing everything for him, and getting everything for him, and we are to believe that he, personally, took a pill from a teammate's locker without knowing what it was or the teammate knowing Bonds took it from him??

So, he is a theif as well as a liar?
 
If your Mark Sweeney shouldn't he be pissed that Bonds threw him under the bus?? Specially if its not true
 
amphetamines aren't a big deal.

but he did pull a kobe by outing a teammate.
 
he's a snitch...lol

also this mostly means he was taking coke, ephedra or another fat burner

Well if we are to go with the rest voting on Mark McGuire, then he may never get in. Most that were polled, that were planning on voting no, weren't planning on changing there answer. And if they do for some reason vote him in, then they have to start letting all suspected steriod era players in also.
 
I've been giving him the benefit of the doubt for a long time but after this newest episode I might have to turn my back on him. There's nothing worse than dropping names. He should just take responsibility for his efing actions.
