Report: Dolphins sign four (so far...)

Justin Holland Position:QBNumber:08School:Colorado St.Height:6'3Status:SeniorWeight:207
  • He is a player at the quarterback position who posses rare gifts that need to be perfected
  • He throws a tight pretty spiral on a rope, with the arm strength to throw passes across his body in the opposite direction
  • He shows poise and composure at times, but once the rush gets nearer his throwing mechanics tend to break down, and he then throws unwarranted passes impulsively
  • He does posses the versatility to throw from both the pocket and on the move effectively to extend passing plays, and he has the athletic ability to throw the ball accurately on the move, with the talent to run up field and keep defenses honest with his running skills
  • He needs to work on his mechanics and fundamentals when things began to break down around him in the pocket, he tends to crumble and give up on plays when this occurs, so his mental approach to the game needs to be worked on
  • I would also like to see this player add more weight and strength to fight off defenders better when they swipe at him and too frequently bring him down with a single arm tackle
  • If a pro team were to draft him, show him the patience and nurture him along slowly, and bring his confidence along with some of the problems I mentioned above, he could become a real steal for some team, because he has all the tools and physical gifts for the next level, just has to become mentally tougher!

Position: Running Back Gerald Riggs Jr.
School: Tennessee
Status: Senior
Height: 6-0
Weight: 220
40-Yard Dash: 4.50 (EST)
Positives:
He is big, strong, and has a decent burst. Can go inside or outside, a pounder. Did not claim a share of the Tennessee starting job until his junior year but shined in that role with Cedric Houston. Has showed he can carry a reasonable load as a senior when healthy. Will run between the tackles and has the burst to bounce runs to the outside. Dynamite pedigree, son of NFL star Gerald Riggs.
Negatives:
Health. Was never able to showcase himself long enough as an underclassman to get sufficient carries. His senior year has also been cut short due to injury. His work ethic was also questioned early in his career. Has a seemingly low yard-per-carry average of 4.3.
Overview:
He has not answered the question of if he can carry a full NFL load. Riggs has outstanding size and has all the tools to blossom, unfortunately the season-ending injury as a senior has not given us a clear view. I personally see a lot of Shaun Alexander in Riggs, but he has a long way to go and there can be absolutely no work ethic questions if he is to develop to that level.
I see Riggs as a early-to-mid second round pick right now with the combine his big chance to move up. If he impresses there, as I forecast, Riggs has all the natural tools to leapfrog into the later stages of round one. But Riggs will not top pop's draft rank at #9.

Position: C Chris McNeil
Class: 5Sr
School: Mississippi State
Conference: Southeastern
Ht., Wt.: 6-3, 288
40 Time: 4.97

BIO: Two-year starter at center who also spent time at guard early in college.

POSITIVES: Explosive position blocker who plays with a nasty attitude. Immediately gets into blocks, works his hands throughout the action and rides defenders from their angle of attack. Displays a good feel for the position. Outstanding with the shotgun snap.

NEGATIVES: Lacks adjustment, footwork and strength at the point. Rarely opens up the middle of the field. Suspended in the past for alcohol-related incidents.

ANALYSIS: A solid college lineman, McNeil offers marginal upside for the next level. Possible backup at several blocking positions.

Position: ILB Sam McGrew
Class: Sr
School: Florida State
Conference: Atlantic Coast
Ht., Wt.: 6-1.5, 240
40 Time: 4.9

BIO: Saw spot duty as a starter last season totaling career-best numbers of 54/4.5/2.5. Junior numbers included 44/4/1.5.

POSITIVES: Hard-working, coachable defender who is best against the run. Quickly fills gaps up the field, displays a good head for the ball and forces the action. Aggressive, works hard and wraps up at the point. Effective special-teamer, productive on coverage units.

NEGATIVES: Straight-line player, lacks the quick change of direction and is tight in his hips. Possesses only a short-area burst of speed.

ANALYSIS: A two-down defender who struggles in coverage, McGrew has possibilities as a backup linebacker.

PROJECTION: Undrafted Free Agent

They are draft eligible players that weren't drafted. They are free to sign with any team.
