Outgoing Miami Dolphins interim head coach Dan Campbell wanted to give running back Jay Ajayi more carries than Lamar Miller towards the end of 2015, according to Armando Salguero of The Miami Herald.

Campbell believed Ajayi to be the better back but was only able to get the rookie 49 rushing attempts, possibly because the organization wanted to save the injury-prone runner for the long-term future.

The news is also telling because the Dolphins allowed Miller to walk away in free agency, unwilling to match the $6.5-million per-year salary the Houston Texans offered.

so the coach couldnt make that decision? sounds like bs

Let's not put all our chips on a back with limited cartiledge in his knee

It somewhat fits Dan Campbell though - he wanted more of a power run game and Ajajajy runs w more power. That said, Lamar matured into an all round back and am sad to see him go. But I can see what DC was thinking if true.

If this is true then we let a top shelf RB go to have an elite RB. I'd be ok with that, but let's see if it can play out like that.

To me, he is a poor man's Marshawn Lynch. Same jump-cut style in the hole and ability to stay just outside of people's grasp to maximize his speed, with enough power to break arm tackls, shed lunge tackles, and bang past DB's. Not a true power runner, but all the hallmarks of Beastmode.

Ajayi is good catching balls out of the backfield too. But apparently he needs you work on his pass pro before he will be auditioned as a 3rd down back. If he can shore that up, he is a complete 3 down back.

Although I still would feel better with a committee of backs. Injuries happen and we can get a decent back in the mid rounds.

Put his college career to one side and let's see what we have in Jay Ajayi. He gave us some nice plays last season, but I haven't seen enough in the NFL to get a handle on what we actually have in the player. Lamar's exit for the big bucks in Houston is his opportunity to step up, but we better have a decent backup plan as well.

In his limited carries as a rookie he showed more than

1) Daniel Thomas in his ENTIRE career here

2) Lamar Miller whom was backing up R.Bush at the time

Point being he's shown that he can make plays. But likely he lacks the experience to be that consistent runner.

Wether or not he's better than Miller remains to be seen.

Not sure how you figure he showed anymore than Miller did as a rookie, I quite agree that he showed more than Danielle Thomas though.

There is absolutely nothing that he has done to this point to make a claim that he is better than Miller. It's just absurd to state that he is. When he breaks the ankle of a loud mouth Bills CB then we'll talk.
When he goes for over 1000yds behind a turnstile OL then we'll talk. When he breaks a 97yd rushing TD then we'll talk.

Better than Miller. Sometimes I can't fathom how people take themselves seriously with some of the stuff they type. Get with me in week 4 when this board blows up with threads about how stupid our FO was for not ponying up the dough for Miller.
