To be the best you've got to beat the best. And to be the richest you've got to, um, beat the richest. Or something. The point here is if Russell Wilson wants to be the highest-paid player in the NFL, he's got to topple Aaron Rodgers' contract.

According to Jason Cole of Bleacher/Report, that's exactly what Wilson wants to do. Cole reported Wednesday that Wilson's "contract demands have exceeded the five-year, $110 million deal that Aaron Rodgers signed with the Packers.

If this is true, then he is selfish and delusional. Does he not recall how he lost the SB for his team. What does he believe he's done to warrant being the nighest paid player in the league.

We'll be hearing about this subject for a looong time. Seattle has no reason to be in any rush to get a deal done, as he is signed through 2016 and they can use the franchise tag on him anyway. Miami knows the very good player they see in Tannehill and locked him up in what was a good fair deal for both teams early. Funny thing is, even though Wilson has a SB ring and two appearances, the Seahawks are obviously not convinced he's quite worthy of franchise QB money being that he has been supported by a great defense and running game during all of his 3 years in the league.

Yeah Seattle doesn't have a lot of cap room left this year but plenty for next year. Like you said they can franchise him next year if he continues his demands. Although I have to agree with JD, this is just typical contract negotiations with the agent starting high and will eventually settle for less. Had Wilson not thrown that late interception in the Super Bowl his case would be much stronger. That play definitely cost him some money and will probably stay with him to his grave.

From a friend in Seattle: Apparently, the feeling is that Wilson is 100% serious about this and also about playing baseball.

Could be interesting if this is not just negotiating ploys at work.

I think this hurt his reputation as being humble and down to earth.

They might be wise to get his deal done before Luck's deal gets done.

It's opening numbers, lets see where they are when it comes closer. I personally think he's a little better than Tannehill and should get similar money to him. This is just completely conjecture , but there's a franchise not too far from where Wilson grew up in Richmond Virginia with an owner who is known for making irrational, exorbitant decisions. Maybe Wilson knows if Seattle won't pay him there's someone out there that will.

with what he's already accomplished he's earned the right to be one of the highest paid players in the league

he can be, and most likely will be a top 5 QB year in, year out in the future (if not the best)
=
biggest contract ever
