Despite the Chargers making Brees a contract offer this week.
Brees may not be slapped with the franchise tag, and may become a UFA!
Chargers may gamble on the fact that Brees' shoulder surgery may have a chilling effect on interested teams.
However Brees' doctors are prepared to report that he is ahead of schedule on rehab, and will be ready to go for the '06 season.

Jets ask Pennington to take a paycut, and maybe interested in Brees, because Jets OC Brian Schottenhiemer, who was Bree's qurterbacks coach in SD is installing the same offensive system in NY.

Could open the door for Brees to Miami!!!

If Brees becomes an UFA, Saban doesn't have a choice but to go after him.

I hate to sound so pessimistic but I just can't see this happening. The FO of the Chargers obviously knows that there are teams out there looking for starting caliber QB's and won't risk losing Brees by not slapping the tag on him. Remember, they can slap the tag on him then sign him to a long-term deal so they really don't lose anything by slapping the tag if they have long-term plans for him.

LT just said that he doesnt think there should be any change as everyone is on teh same page and the QB position shouldn't be changed. we do konw the players like and believe in brees.

There is an ongoing struggle between AJ Smith and Marty...Brees is Marty's guy...that would certainly be interesting and might be the beginning of the end for Marty...Obviously, if Rivers is the starter (well, more than likely anyways) the team probably would struggle next season...If AJ is interested in dropping Marty...that would give him a way to do it...But Brees would certainly get interest even if his shoulder injury is lingering. He's proven he is a legitimate QB...The thing is that Brees loses big time if SD lets him explore FA...he may even sign with someone else just because of not wanting to come back to SD....???...

Maybe LT21 can shed some more light on this....Ya out there LT ???

I just can't see Smith sabotaging the team over a p!ssing match w/ Schottenheimer.

I don't see why the Chargers would do that. Weird, but okay..I'd be thrilled

Brees would be a perfect fit... but I am not feeling like this will happen.

Chargers would be very foolish to let Brees go. He is a Pro-Bowl QB in the Prime of his Career. I still say they will shop Rivers around and see what they can get for him. Not saying he def will be traded but they will def listen to offers.

Who knows if Brees will ever be the same QB though after having shoulder surgery?? It may be a bit of a gamble to think he will be the same as before the injury.

Well, I didn't mean it that way...Rivers is the guy that AJ wants, so if he forces the issue and Rivers starts, they may struggle some with his growing pains...He can then blame it on Marty when he decides to let him go...He can defend not re-signing Brees due to the injury...it just makes him look clean during the whole process...He can always use the arguement that if Rivers had gotten 2-3 games after they were eliminated from the playoffs this year under his belt, he would have been that much better this year..I didn't mean to imply that he'd purposely do something that would jeopardize the best the team can be...

Brees would not be the best fit here because of his arm strength. He has shown he can be the man, but the majority of his throws are short and intermediate to the wrs and te....He would be a major upgrade from Gus/Sage this year....

Ding ding ding.

Regardless of whether or not he came here, that would mean one less team would be looking for a QB, which only means good things for us.
