This is unfortunately true. Sean Smith has always sucked, he's a Barbie doll out there. Yeremiah's age has caught up with him, can't place blame on him for that. His days as the secondary's enforcer have long since passed him by.
Jury is still out on Vontae. I believe he does have the talent, his ego has gone to his head though.
And Clemons is at least a serviceable starter at free safety. No Ed Reed but no Reshad Jones either.
I've always admired Yeremiah Bell. He's accomplished so much more in the NFL than he was ever supposed to through good ol' fashioned hard work, dedication to film study, and relying on his instincts.
But he's gone from being occassionally not quite there, to always being a step late, a step behind, a step slow, almost there, nice try, close but no cigar, etc.
I've always believed that Reshad Jones has no business being the last line of defense in sky coverage packages. He should've been groomed as Bell's replacement.
Miami needs an upgrade at both safety positions, with or without Chris Clemons.
There's really nobody in Miami's secondary other than Bell who has good football instincts for their position, or a knack for playing the ball in the air.
Rebuilding the secondary with instinctual players with ball skills would be one of my top priorities, right behind landing a franchise quarterback. You can't do it all at once, but I'd start piece by piece.... and I know exactly the type of DB's I'd be looking for.
