Now, I'm not trying to say that this was Saban's plan all along or anything like that, but I think that by trading Feeley to SD during the season has opened up the door for Drew Brees to be a free agent.

Obviously, the single biggest factor in the equation was the injury he suffered in week 17.........but I think that had they not traded for AJ and they only had Rivers and Lemon (0 career starts between them), that the decision to let Brees test the market, even with his current injury, would have been a lot more difficult for them. IMO, they well may have bit the bullet and franchised him again. The fact that they went and extended AJ last week only supports the fact that they are happy they have him.

So, if we do somehow wind up getting Brees.........did AJ serve a purpose for the Miami Dolphins??

Hmm...as opposed as i am to NOT drafting a QB this year...your idea has merit.

Well he didnt serve that much of a purpose here really. However, Im sure it makes the decision easier with Feeley there. However, I think they would of made the same decision with Lemon there if they liked him as much as they said they did.

Thats an intresting question. You may have a point.

:dolphins: you may have a really good point there...it seems a lot like a conspiracy theory, but it prob. has some sort of merit... it did seem like S.D. got the better of that deal at the time (lets face it... we gave them a pick and A.J., already having pissed away the 2nd rounder that we gave for him to Philly, all for Lemon and some future cap space).... but i wouldnt put this whole thing by Nick... Saban seems to know better than anyone else whats REALLY going on and only he could do something so ingenius... invest in Brees, use picks for O-line and secondary, and suddenly Miami brings home the gold!... go Fins!:dolphins:

No, i don't think it was planned at all.........because someone would have had to know that Brees was going to get hurt. Just funny how things work out, especially if we can get him.

In a circuitous way that would mean Rick Speilman was a genius in trading for Feeley, knowing that he would eventually yield us Brees. Farfetched but if we get Brees because of Feeley, I won't care, we've found our franchise.

Yes he did serve a purpose. He single handedly got us Ronnie Brown. Had it not been for AJ we would have probably been picking around 12th instead of 2nd. His talent was his ability to put his team in the best possible position to watch the other team's CB return his pick 6 for the score. Not many players have such a nack for for winning the MVP of the opposite team. He was the only player in team history that made me embarrassed to be a Dolphin fan.
Another purpose he served was making all true finfans smile when we heard he was traded. What we got in return did not matter. We could have traded him for a steak soft taco and a coke and I would have still rolled down my window at the first Chargers fan I saw and yelled "SUCKERS"!!!!!!!!!!!

Uninformed opinion. By now the issues that plagued this offense in 2004 have been well documented and debated. If you want to lay all the blame on a young QB who had absolutely no supporting cast (coaching, O-line) go ahead. It obviously makes you feel better.
However, he's not a bum like you make him out to be and San Diego has probably seen that he has the ability to play at this level.
