I know there was talk about eventually putting a retractable roof on the stadium, but does anyone think that will come to fruition? I think it would help in terms of keeping more fans in the stands since the weather conditions, extreme heat/rain won't be a factor. I would imagine that if the roof was closed the place would be louder which we could DEFINITELY use! The only downfall is we would lose the heat "edge" that wears teams down, but in essence it may be wearing our team down also, so maybe a retractable roof would keep the team fresher throughout the year. What do you guys think?

I really don't think it will happen. As much it would keep a lot of fans in the stands during 1:00 PM games, those same fans would probably blast the organization for taking away the "South Florida heat" advantage that comes with the early games.

Here is the latest response from Ross on the subject:

Q. What about a retractable roof at Land Shark Stadium?
A. Ross: We’re studying all that, I don’t think it would be a retractable roof, because I don’t think one, the cost. I don’t think the county, in these economic times has the money and I think the cost of acclimatizing a stadium is so expensive and for the amount of usage it would get it’s probably not feasible. It probably doesn’t need a retractable roof from a football standpoint or soccer. But one thing we’re looking at, is how to do we really improve the stadium and cover some of those issues, not having a roof.

I would say it is highly unlikely that it ever happens.

I doubt if it will happen.....should it? Probably. The couple of games I've benn to....it hot as Hades! And you have some fans who just like to sit there so they don't get all sweaty. And as much as I want to get on there case for not being true fans.....they are there and we need them to make some noise. And until we get the roof......the noise volume won't go up.

Not to be a prick...but if it's too hot for ya...stay home in the A/C and enjoy the game. I love the heat and sometimes rain during the games...it adds the "any given Sunday" feel!

NO TO THE ROOF! :)

Why the hell do taxpayers have to foot the bill for the NFL. I have never understood why people stand for this crap. I always admire that when this stadium was originally built it was private funds.

Well teams who play in freezing cold weather don't have a roof so why in the hell do we need one?? A roof would just make us even softer then we already are!!!

They could at least put an overhang on the seats if they were thinking about doing a roof. Think of the big soccer clubs' stadia in Europe. The whole point of a roof would be to keep fans dry during rain-- that's the only rationalization I can think of.

Would be nice & cost effective if they did it like the Roman Colosseum. Cables criss crossing over the top with a retractable canvas shades to block the sun off the fans while leaving full sunshine on the field.

Fans still get wet in the rain they just don't have a heat stroke the rest of the time.

gonna need a bunch more celeb owners to afford that...

This is the part of the interview Right after ^

Q. Does that mean some sort of covering over some areas?

A. Ross: Yes.
