This is my first post on FinHeaven! Honestly, I know there are glaring holes on defense, but let me break a few offensive things down.

I feel that the Dolphins can solve many of the defensive struggles by simply keeping their defense fresh and rested. In a rebuilding stage, Miami should focus on three things:

1) Time of possession is incredibly important. If Miami can focus on running the ball more, they can run the clock, keep the defense resting on the sideline, and keep the opposing offense OFF the field; it's pretty damn tough for offenses to score from the bench.

2) The depth on the offensive line is key to their rebuilding. Miami would be better off not going for the huge stars on the offensive line, but moreso going for numbers. If they have enough decent players to run a few fresh legs in every set of downs, then they might be better off than going for having one stellar group.

3) Lastly, find Nick Saban and slit his throat for driving Miami into the ground. Wannstedt and Jimmy Johnson might have had issues making/staying in the playoffs, but if I remember correctly, the years Wannstedt the Dolphins he left with an overall winning record. On the other hand, Saban had a 15-17 record in two seasons, and he's a liar on top of that. :fire:

I propose a few questions for other members for the Dolphins' draft-day decisions.

1) The Dolphins need a QB. No secret. What would it hurt to trade that 6th-round pick from New Orleans (for Mare) for Trent Green, knowing he only has a few years left, to mentor the quarterback they draft? Quinn won't fall to 9th, and the Dolphins will not trade up for him, I promise. Let me say that I would probably splooge the second that the Dolphins drafted Quinn, but I don't see it happening. Regardless of Quinn, I feel that it would be better for them to hold out on drafting a QB until their second 2nd round pick, where Michigan State's Drew Stanton should still be available. Stanton is NOT a running QB, but is known for being a good scrambler. Behind a known shakey line, would it not seem smart to have someone that could protect himself and escape?

2) The Raiders will pick Calvin Johnson, only because Al Davis is a tard. If the Raiders really wanted to improve they should have snatched up Jeff Garcia at QB (a phenomenal west-coast offense QB), then trade down to a 4-6 range and grab an extra 2nd or 3rd out of it, draft Adrian Peterson, and use the extra pick on offensive line. Then, holy crap, they've got something going offensively. Regardless, the odds of the Raiders taking positive steps with this draft are about as good as the Lions not having a top-ten first-round pick...ever. Ok so after my Raider-Rant, I ask, if the Dolphins did get offered a trade that would put them into a position that would allow them to draft Calvin Johnson, should they go for it? CJ opposite Chambers with McMichael in the middle, and quite possibly the two-headed monster of Ricky and Ronnie in the backfield...That is an offense that would spread defenses thinner than Calista Flockhart. Yeah, the line is shakey, but the defenses wouldn't be in a position to stack the line, which would further help with line issues. So the question I propose is, if the Dolphins get put in position to get Calvin Johnson, and already will have Trent Green in the bank, do they take CJ, or pass him over for an offensive or defensive lineman?

3) Who thinks Nick Saban should be scalped? :fire:

Lastly, I'll give what I feel would be the top picks the Phins could legitimately have in their pocket following day one.

Round 1, Pick 1 - (From Raiders) WR Calvin Johnson
Round 2, Pick 8 - (Traded to Raiders with #9 for top pick)
Round 2, Pick 28 - (From Patriots) Drew Stanton
Round 3, Pick 7 - either ND's Ryan Harris or Marshal Yanda from Iowa (O-Line needs help)

The odds of that trade to #1 overall are pretty slim, but it's what I feel the Dolphins could do. Any thoughts on my draft projection? It isn't really a projection; it's actually more of a hope/thought. I love CJ and think he and Chambers would terrorize defenses together. I think the Dolphins really are only 3-4 players away from taking the division by storm next year, and all are attainable on draft day.

Any thoughts?

Glad to see you have a strong supported opinion on your first post, welcome to Finheaven man.

I have one giant problem with your theory though. We can't afford to trade up to number 1, that will cost us all of picks just about man. I understand it's just a hope but it's not happening man. Bank on Brady Quinn being a Dolphin.

Here is a helpful place to find out what it takes to move up in the draft. http://nfldraftblitz.com/pick_value_chart.htm

Again, welcome to the greatest Dolphins site on earth man. :welcome:

To trade up for CJ we will have to unload alot of our picks, this year and next. Cam needs his qb to run his offense first. He also has said that he is going to build from the inside out. To me that means with the qb he wants to run this team. who that is remains to be seen. Quinn I hope.

I don't think it would really take all picks to trade up to #1 from #9...Dolphins give: Round 1 #9, Round 2 #8, Round 4 #9...and then the Dolphins get #1 overall. That chart seems like it is a little bit bloated at the top end. Just a thought.

I think Calvin Johnson is amazing. If the Raiders don't pick him #1, then he very well might drop to 4th, 5th, 6th...because we know the Lions won't pick another receiver, and the Browns have more pressing needs. If CJ falls out of the top-3, then the Dolphins have an enormous chance at a serious game-changer. With Chambers to mentor him, and a great WR Coach, Terry Robiskie.

I dream about CJ in teal and orange.

I want him, and I'll explode if I get him

Well I hate to break it to you bro, but that's the chart they actully use. CJ would be nice, but we have bigger issues than WR that to trade up that far. I wouldn't even trade that high up to get our QB of the future, it's just too expensive. I will explode if we get Quinn.

Oh and by the way, it's aqua. Calling it teal is considerd fightin' words around these parts.

Haha...my mistake, I guess I could have been worse and said turquoise.

I would love Quinn...I really would. I said it already, I'd splooge if we did get him, but I am scared of Quinn at the same time. Ryan Leaf, Tim Couch, Joey Harrington, etc. On the other hand, several years back, the Chargers spent their top pick on a guy named LaDainian, and then used their 2nd round pick on some schmoe name Drew Brees. Ever heard of them? Maybe I'm thinking that since we have a former San Diego assistant, we might luck out with a 2nd round QB just as they did, and use the 1st-Round pick on another skill position. I'm overly hopeful, I'm sure.

I dominate Madden's franchise mode.

Whoever we draft I support Cam and hopefully that draftee will be a playmaker!!!

Yeah no worries dude, just go with aqua.

I hear ya' man but we can't be afraid of players because of former busts. This year's QB class is no where near as deep as they've been in years past. I think it's Quinn or bust in the first round, we just have to get this guy.

As for Madden, if you want a real challenge, try online play. Anyone can dominate franchise but find the true players online.

WingFins04 for me on Madden.

Ted Ginn jr.:cooldude:

I wouldn't mind that, except I have a sincere hatred of OSU, but I'd live with it. I also don't see how we could even get Ted Ginn, since he's slated to go in the mid-to-late-1st...it would be costly.

So why not take Drew Stanton in the 2nd?

I like us to take:

Round 1-Ginn
Round 2-Meriweather
Round2-Stanton

If that will happen, I hope but probably not.

My draft philosophy is this:

Get our QB that we so badly need, and adress the line in the first day.

So that gives us 2 options. Option A has us getting Quinn and option B doesn't.

A)

1. Quinn
2. Kalil
3. Free

B)

1. Brown
2. Kalil
2. Stanton

Sound good?

Just give it up Ice, you know we're getting Quinn.
