Reverse Wildcat: could Chad Pennington take the snap?

Opposing defenses are starting to realize that at least 90% of the time, the Wildcat formation will be a running play.

So I'm wondering if a "Reverse Wildcat" would be a possibility: Instead of Ricky Williams coming across in motion, Chad Pennington comes across, stops in front of Ronnie Brown, takes the shotgun snap, and it becomes a standard passing play (Ricky, Ronnie, Fasano, Ginn, Camarillo all turning into receivers).

And if teams start adjusting when they see Chad Pennington coming across in motion, then there's the "Fake Reverse Wildcat": Chad Pennington could run past Ronnie Brown, Ronnie Brown could take the direct snap, and run or pass with it.

What do you think?

We could, but he is slow and that would probably look and feel out of sync. I'm guessing if they want to use Pennington then they will backwards toss or throw it to him and then he can throw it to somebody else.

Please nooooooo, unless we had an atheletic QB that there was the threat of running lets keep going the way it is.

Hell, Ricky was going to throw off of the end-around the one time ... but, apparantly, no-one was open.

I would like to see some type of pass play out of that formation. it's already tough enough to stop. That would make it near impossible. Maybe some type of flee-flicker or something?

ummm....2 weeks ago Ronnie threw for a TD from that formation. There are probably 2 or three options Ronnie has every time he gets the snap. If they leave someone uncovered he throws, he can give it to Ricky, he can take it himself etc etc. No need to get tricky(er) if no team can stop the formation as is. Ronnie said it himself, though, it is not the formation, it's the execution. Having success in that formation (in the pros) has got to be demoralizing for the other team. It really is just a run though.

Why not just have Brown come in motion..pennington at shotgun. Pennington will not have to move.. (Do this after a regular wildcat play).

As a side note...we need to limit the Wildcat formation next game imo.

I think we will see 2 WR lined up on the left side. One being C.P. and the other Teddy. Then Ronnie throws to C.P. and hits Fasano crossing over the middle.

Ricky's small hands scare me sometimes....fumble!

i was really hoping to see that this game, maybe a toss to pennington and then a (short) bomb to ginn lmao. Is a short bomb an oxymoron? haha

Y? if it works, use it. In total, we have used the wildcat 16 times, 168 yards (10.5 ypa) for 6 TD's in only 2 games.

If it works, use it.

When you have Pennington lined so wide, trying to involve him with some kind of reverse or toss would just be too slow developing... right now that fake to Ricky running right across Ronnie's face is a BEAUTIFUL one... Ricky is at full speed when he passes... It makes it very difficult to get a quick read and then when Ronnie attacks the line so fast! It is an extremely well designed play...

The truth of it is... When it is a running play most often it means we are making it work... the single best way to defend it would be to commit to stopping the run and force Ronnie or Rocky to throw it since they are not QB's and inevitably they will make mistakes... But if we are getting yards on the ground it means we are executing to perfection. Keep doing it until someone stops us consistently, I say.

It works when you see the defense in the right package...(Base Defense, no blitz). Use the wildcat when you see a tendency (whether in film study or during the game) when the defense isn't set up to stop it.

The more random to them it becomes, the harder it is to defend it.

We need to draft an atheletic QB or maybe use Ginn Jr in the backfield(wildcat)
Can Gin Jr throw the ball?
