Reviewing the drafts 2005 - 2010 - It is depressing

Did Ronnie even suit up today? If you watched the game tonight, Ryan didn't look bad, but again underscored, by head to head comparison, if there was ever a draft we could take a mulligan on, it would have to be the 05 much more so than 08!

not so sure about this one. not very many guys in 2005 in the first round panned out. certainly it was a huge blunder not to take aaron rodgers instead of ronnie brown. but parcells had an extra 2nd and extra picks thanks to randy mueller, and he made the SAME MISTAKE taking jake long instead of matt ryan. phillip merling was a 1st rounder (he WAS the 32nd player taken -there ARE 32 teams in the NFL). merling is a first round bust. the ONLY good pick in that draft was kendall langford, and hes just solid -he never makes game changing plays.

saban had to trade up to take roth in the second round. and roth PERFORMED in miami. parcells promised him a contract then didnt deliver (cause he didnt draft him). we are missing crowders presence this year even tho im not high on him.

2005 draft was WAY undermanned in terms of draft picks and overall talent in the draft
2008 draft was WAY overmanned in terms of draft picks and the draft had much more talent.

we came away with just as much in 2005 with less to work with. 2005 was a better draft. (they both suck, cause of what we missed) parcells blows

You forgot the undrafted players like Davone Bess, Cam Wake & Dan Carpenter.

Also, Brandon Fields is still on the team.

not really sure what your saying here. davone bess im not as high on as everybody else, hes pretty reliable (but shouldnt all your receivers actually be able to catch the ball?? just a thought - u paying attention marshall???) he finds the seems in zone. thats all fine and good, but hes not wes welker, and he doesnt scare ANYBODY and you cant build your offense around the guy. so hes just another guy IMO. cameron wake was CFL defensive player of the year TWO TIMES, with ridiculous sack and TFL numbers. its like praising a team for signing lawrence taylor as a free agent, even after they signed him and decided to sit him for a year. dan carpenter - great find, but pretty sure the dudes a kicker, and unless your head coach is sparano not sure how much this means. brandon fields was a randy mueller pick

Who we passed on

It looks even worse when you see some of the names of who was still available when we made those picks. I know it's easy to look in hindsight and say we should've taken one player over the other, but take a look at the names.

2005

There were guys like Greg Jennings and MJD who were taken in the 2nd, so no way we would've gotten those players unless we traded down.
3 WR Derek Hagan (82) - Owen Daniels (98), Brad Smith (103)

Notable undrafted: LeGarrette Blount, Sam Shields

There's a reason why UNDRAFTED players aren't counted while reviewing the DRAFT.

for the 2010 draft, i like Odrick, and so far Misi starts, Carroll has started, Jones starts, Spitler is core special teams, Jerry comes in for Vernon when Vernon stubs a toe. I'm not saying any of them are great players, but that is a lot more production than your summation would indicate.

and let's review ireland's first draft in charge as well:

Mike Pouncey
Daniel Thomas
Clyde Gates
Charles Clay
Frank Kearse
Jimmy Wilson

looks about 83.333% successful at this point.
I know that these next few years will make us so much better. I like this last years draft.

Right.. so no credit due there...

So much bias. So little time.

I'm not defending the drafts, but if we're going to evaluate them, let's do it right.

really???? um ok....do it right then or find SOMETHING that isnt accurate please. i beg you. put up or shut up

Bess is a top 5 slot receiver; not every player you draft is going to be the best at his position, nor should that be the measuring stick for a successful pick. You can't negate the importance of the Wake signing; credit where credit is due, it was a good find. And you can downplay the importance of a kicker all you want but he's a hell of a kicker.

Bias bias bias. You're building up straw-men to knock them down.

So you call that success? I can start for the Dolphins, whats your point?

Half of those players that are out of the league or busted out were starters on this team at one point so again I ask, waht is the point of that evaluation? Doesn't mean much.

Wilson sucks, Kearse sucks, Clay sucks, Gates has potential, Pouncey is good, Thomas looks good.

And I dub them as suck because they haven't shown jack **** in all those minutes they have played.

Jerry started last year does that mean he was good? He blows. Carroll Blows. This organization has done nothing but blow **** up since God knows when. Marino basically covered up a lot of the issues this organization had/has. If you take Marino out of the equation, the Miami Dolphins have never, NEVER, had a good enough team ALL AROUND to get deep into the playoffs.

Good, STRONG teams are strong all around with a franchise QB to take them OVER the top. Miami had a franchise QB to CARRY them to the Wild Card.

well to be honest you arent really saying much that i dont already agree with. it might just seem that way. hey i give them a ton a credit for bringing wake in. they convinced him to come here over indianapolis. thats fantastic - but money talks too, and I PROMISE he didnt get a lower offer from us than he did from them. all im saying about wake is its not like the guy was working at UPS and now hes an all-pro. the guy was the BEST PROFESSIONAL defensive player in another league at a premium position. its equivalent to dominating a conference perhaps just a step below the SEC. not even division 2. and it didnt take a ton of foresight, all it took was a little money, and a pep talk. ill give them credit for the pep talk.

ive got nothing to say about carpenter. i love DC $. maybe im spoiled because i thought Mare was such an excellent kicker (and underutilized on onside kicks). or maybe its just that kickers have become so accurate in todays game that picking between them is like picking sticks. so not really sure how much credit this deserves - but it does deserve some - although the guy they got rid of was awfully good the year before as well.

bess isnt as great as u think he is, and im not saying he isnt reliable. hes very reliable. he just flat out isnt a threat, and hes not even close to welker like so many here believe. im not saying bess cant play, im not even saying i dont like bess. hes clutch, and hes the only receiver that has dependable hands (although he hasnt been as good lately). im going to say it right now. u could replace him with a guy like dane sanzenbacher and this offense wouldnt miss a beat (WHO????) EXACTLY.

hold up. i see where u are going, and your intent is correct. but wilson has shown more than gates, and clay made some plays in his only action. yes carroll blows, and yes we need a QB, but lets lay off the other guys until they have a chance to play. QBs win games, but they cant win with a roster of bumbs - just ask marino

go back even farther than the last 5 years. The last real good drafts we had were 97 with Madison, JT, and Derrick Rodgers (He gave us a few productive years) and 98 with Surtain, Kenny Mixon (solid but unspectacular strongside DE for us) and Lorenzo Brommell (21.5 sacks as a roational DE in 4 years from a 4th round pick is nice).

yep. thats what ive been saying FOREVER. its been 15 years since we had a good draft. last guy that had a CLUE was jimmy johnson. this past draft by ireland was our best in 15 years, and he wasnt picking high, and he didnt have additional picks (u listening parcells?) at least he found some players. jimmy missed on some picks, but even missing, he STILL found so many players that EVEN wandstedt was able to win games long after jimmy left

Damn this is honestly depresssssssssing...we are the only team that can not get a good HC, QB or solid draft for our lives....its pathetic to cheer for this team right now...i am a die hard fan but i sometimes question my loyalty to this team because of how insane it is to expect any good coming from them.
