What about Rex Ryan. Is he another in a long line of excellent DC from Baltimore? Before everyone dismisses him, What is his record & experience? No one thought Mangini would be as good as he as been with the Jets either, and look what he did this year.

Thoughts?

I would take either of the Ryan brothers over Rivera. I prefer their defensive schemes to the Bears

Baltimore DCs make decent head coaches (see Lewis,Nolan, and Del Rio), and I thought we were planning on interviewing him.

I wouldn't compare him to Mangini though. Ryan has been around coaches his entire life (his dad was C of the raiders, and his brother his DC of the raiders), and has proven to have one of the best schemes when it comes to blitzes and coverage. Mangini was a 34 year old who only spent one year as a DC, and only a handfull of years as an assistant

Yes. I understand. BUT, is he someone fans believe can lead this team to the playoffs and/or Superbowl Championships? Is he/could he be the BEST option for this team all things considered? Remeber how young Bill Cohwer was when he took the reins of the Steelers.

with his defensive philosophy, absolutely. People want talk about Saban's defense being complicated, and all of his blitzes, Ryan's is that much more confusing. His idea of a blitz isn't sending the MLB and SS right down the middle, he sends everybody, and the constant motion confuses offenses.

His brother for that matter would be a great head coach considering wht he did with a very young defense.

Rex Ryan is the guy I really want to see coach the Fins but that isn't likely which is disappointing and will probably hire an offensive minded coach.

Ray Lewis loves the guy....His defenses are aggressive and ranked high every year.

His dad is Buddy Ryan, one of the great defensive minds of the modern era and architect of the 46 defense as used by the 1985 Bears, perhaps the greatest defense to ever step on a football field. He was also instrumental in Minnesota's "purple people eater" defense of the '70's. He never coached with the Raiders, but was a head coach of the Eagles where he made 3 playoff appearances.

Didn't you hear?

Ray Lewis litterally THREATENED Rex Ryan, saying he better not leave the Ravens or he will KILL HIM.

I'm not even kidding.

I'd love to have Rex Ryans a coach. However, i think he will be the HC of Oakland

Look, before anyone 'annoints' Mangini ... the JETS were a year removed from the playoffs ... AND Pennington came back ... that's the reason they 'tubed' last year !!!

It wasn't that great a coaching job !!

But since I do prefer DCs as HCs ... I have no problem bringing in a Ryan ... they all seem to have some problems as HCs -- but as DCs they seem to be in their element !!

I agree. Their defense wasn't that great and some goes with their offense. Mangini is overrated. Herm Edwards could have done the same last year without all those injuries.
