Despite all the factors working against him, Brown still ran for over 1,000 yards last season, even though he missed three-plus games with injuries. That total was actually better than his '05 numbers, even though he played two more games his rookie season. He also averaged a respectable 4.2 yards per carry a year ago, which is even more impressive considering the O-line blocking for him. Larry Johnson and Steven Jackson, probably the second- and third-best RBs in the league, averaged 4.2 and 4.3 yards per carry, respectively.

Just because a guy has the same ypc as another does not make them equal.
Is Jones Drew superior to our guy because he averages alot more per carry?LARRY jOHNSON HAS BACK to back 1700 yard campaigns and that is not easy and no Ronnie Brown has not shown he is up to that level yet. It takes alot of factors to have a big year, I hope Ronnie does very well this year but many predicted he would breakout last year. Alot depends on our oline and if he can take the pounding of running the ball alot more. Two things that are still big question marks.

It's obvious that in order for Ronnie Brown to have a good season the OLine has to play well and have a much better start to the season than they have the past 3 years. However, I think he can improve just based on 2 factors really...Cameron will be giving him the ball more (something we haven't done enough the past 2 years) and that he can stay healthy the entire year. I think if he does those 2 things he can run for 1200+ yards. A few other factors could make Ronnie have a type of season we all thought he was capable of. Ronnie Brown should be getting more balls thrown to him because of the design of the offense. We really haven't utilized his receiving skills as a weapon yet. If we have improved QB play, our passing game could open up, thus giving Ronnie more lanes to run through. Lastly, our redzone offense improves---along with playcalling---and Ronnie Brown gets the ball more at the goaline and scores more often.

Ronnie Brown certainly has the talent to be a great back. Will he ever achieve that level? I'm not so certain. However, if he's going to do it, this is his system. He's going to get the ball a lot, running behind a fullback, and will be counted on as the main guy. Him not coming in good shape to the first mini-camps gives me a little doubt about the guy's drive, but he did come back in much better shape to the last mini-camp. Plus, that's the only real detraction to him. I see his drive on the field and he just never gives up.

I think he will do better this year and even better next year.
That means he would of improved his numbers every single year since he came into the league. He's such a talented and complete running back but this is the ultimate team game and so far he has had absolutley no help, really sad thing. I imagine he would already be a pro-bowler if he played for the broncos, colts, cheifs, etc.

if brown goes into the season in good weight and can stay healthy i think he could get 1,200 yards easy

Last year, the entire team was over-hyped and supposed to win the Super Bowl. Then reality set in and the attrocious OL and crap-tastic QB play put a quick end to that. But Ronnie was only a disappointment because he was underused on a bad offense... but he still managed 4.2 YPC.
This year things look much improved... at least on paper. The OL should at least show some improvement under the expert eye of Houck. Green has the ability to make quick decisions and accurate throws. Ronnie will have a sledgehammer blasting thru LB's for him. Cam knows how to utilize an RB and his abilities. Like I said, on paper, everything points to Ronnie having a monster year!

Let's hope reality looks a lot closer to the paper version than what it did last year.

Can't wait to see Schlessinger and his unusual atracction for ramming linebackers, hope the Jaggernaut learns from the best...

Ronnie hopefully will stay healthy all the way through the season and hopefully into the playoffs...RB should become a top ten back this year.

There's one more important piece of the puzzle no one has mentioned: the hiring of the new RB coach, Barry Jackson, I think is his name. This guy has been responsible for teaching great running backs how to be pro bowl running backs. Cam knew this guy was one of the best RB coaches in recent history of the NFL, and enticed him to come out of retirement to teach Ronnie Brown.

I don't know if that translates into significantly greater success on the field or not, because everything begins with Ronnie's attitude. He has to want to be one of the great running backs in the league. We know he has the physical gifts. Like Barry Sanders, Gayle Sayers, Walter Payton, and Emmitt Smith, Ronnie will have to want to be remembered as one of the best to ever play the game. He has to sell out and leave everything on the field.

A great coach can teach him up and lead him to the water, but he has to want to drink. I look forward to watching him run.

"Brown could have his breakout season this year"

Man I sure hope so...go Fins! :kick:

To this point, he's not even worthy of being talked about in the same paragraph as LJ and Steven Jackson.

I like Ronnie's talent, but thats all its been now for two years. If he doesn't show up this year, then we need to think RB in the first round next season. There are alot of good ones coming out.

I am pulling for Ronnie big time, but it might be that he just isn't a running back capable of building a team around. We should know by the end of September whether or not he is getting it done.
