I've been a Hartline supporter from the get-go but he doesn't seem the same this year. Not sure if it's because he got paid or if something else is going on. Regardless, I've liked Matthews since his rookie season and I think it's time he gets a chance to start on a regular basis. He did a great job last year filling in for Gibson and I think he can put together more consistency than Hartline. At the very least, it should light a fire under Hartline's ass. I'm intrigued to see what he can do as a starter.

I think the thing Matthews has lacked is gaining trust with the coaching staff. He's always seemed to make plays on the field when his number was called, but for whatever reason, he wasn't in favor. Maybe it was maturity or work ethic, who knows.

I do like what I see on the field from him and I certainly thought he was going to have a bigger impact this year. Maybe he's in the plans next year if the team moves on from Hartline and Gibson.

I love how he catches the ball. He catches the ball cleanly and with his hands as opposed to his body. He should replace hartline at least for one game

Hartline is trash. he does absolutely nothing well. he is a body catcher, cant separate, has no RAC, plays very small, slow..The guy is just flat out garbage and we need to stop wasting time and leaving plays out there. Matthews needs to replace trashline

Interesting comment from Bill Lazor at yesterday's press conference. He was very complimentary about Brian Hartline and even said that he is about the hardest working player on the team. However, it was obvious that Hartline is on notice to complete his catches. Rishard Matthews' TD on limited opportunities served as a reminder.

Hartline has "deceptive speed" and is a "savvy route runner" and "works the sideline well" and has "chemistry with Tannehill" and...**** I ran out of cliches....

Good news, friends, Brian Hartline is starting 9 more games for the Miami Dolphins.

Read this amazing article on why he absolutely should be benched. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...phins-should-consider-benching-brian-hartline

Slim, thank you for that link. That could be the best article I have ever read as far as analyzing a player, dissecting his strengths and weaknesses, and then using data and pictures to back it all up. Seriously man, thank you.

As far as Hartline goes, my eyeballs told me he didn't belong on the field. His stats confirmed what my eyeballs were telling me. And after reading that article, I know exactly what the problem is.

At this point, Rishard Matthews needs to take Hartline's spot on the depth chart. Not necessarily because he is better, but because we need to see what he can do in games when given a real chance. Maybe he can be the Jelani Jenkins of the offense.

Either way, as it stands right now, Hartline is slowing down the developmental progress of Rishard. Hartline is done in Miami. Now we need to see if Rishard belongs here or not. If he does, that's awesome. If not, at least we get to find that out sooner rather than later and can move forward with a better understanding of our roster needs.

I don't think Hartline or Matthews should be starting on the outside. The WR2 position is going to get a good look in the offseason. I think whoever starts there next year is not on this team right now.

that's good stuff...39 wasted go routes wow...love the point about while many may be clear out coverage for underneath options he must win also on some...and he's not...like ever...cut bait

scared of contact over the middle and no rac from the guy...cut freaking bait

And on top of all those failed routes, when he does run a successful route (which is improbable based on the data) he poops the bed and drops the pass.

Hartline doesn't suit this system and will see his production decline further, imo. I hate his lack of toughness after the catch and he would be a depth guy on a lot of rosters. May of us said it before the season that when the sideline comeback routes dry up, Hartline will dry up with them. I think that's been borne out.

Matthews isn't the second coming, by any means, but he had a very productive day Sunday, not just with the TD but in special teams also, where he really stood out to me for his effort and hustle. That didn't indicate a guy lacking application. I don't know why he isn't trusted more in the offense. It would seem to suit him well.

Could be that Matthews gets snaps that were Gibson's rather than at Hartline's expense. That would annoy me though. A guy like Jax's Hurns, a UDFA who ran a 4.55 at the Combine, can get separation at will and get YAC despite a slender frame, but Hartline with similar speed and size can't separate and can't stay on his feet. Guys with Hartline's ability just aren't rare, however you spin it.

Well, Matthews should at least be getting a look, but we know that he won't. So yes, I agree that next year's starter is not on the team right now.
