Ricky could be traded

No surprises there. I don't know how many times folks have speculated on Ricky coming back, having a decent year to build up his trade value, and then get traded. A search through the threads will give you a bunch of scenarios I'm sure.

If Ronnie gets in there and proves he can do it, Ricky will be gone for sure at the end of the year. The question is who would be willing to take him and would we get enough in return, especially with the talk of him only playing for a couple more years.

It is interesting to hear it come from his agent--though not surprising.

I think this is possible, but not as much as people are being led to believe. first off, in case you havent noticed, the RB market is not great becuase just about every team has a supposed "great RB". Some have two or three good ones. This past draft will make it worse. The fact is, ricky owes us money and he may end up loving this situation with sharing time and not being used as a full time back.

if we can get a third or fourth rounder, Saban will do it. If Ricky ends up scoring big this year, Saban will want to keep him because he loves having two backs, one being a bigger back. Ricky is too good to not consider that. His only problem will be how long will his attitude stick?

I agree that there's always the possibility Ricky stays. However, if Ricky has a good year and wants more money at the end (I don't think there is any doubt it would come up), the trade scenario comes into play. Finding a team to take him and getting good compensation for him, as I said before, is part of the equation and could be a problem.

ricky was brought back to be dealt. championship teams are built by drafting shrewdly and wise FA moves, not by counting on people who are not accountable.

saban will get whatever draft pick he can from some team in desperation, and that chapter will be closed.

I still say if we do trade him, send him to Houston for Dave Ragone.

Trade Ricky straight up for QB starter or Oline help.

that's a pretty decent trade . . . its good for both teams and Ragone . . .

I think the Jaguars are Miami's dancing partner. If it isn't them, I think maybe it's the Panthers.
John Clayton mentioned Jax as interested in Gordon if he has a decent preseason, and stays healthy.

:D

Anyone ever consider that Ricky would not want to be traded? I bet he would hate having to start all over with a new team. And doesn't he only want to play a few more years, at the most?

you dont spend the #2 overall pick on a RB, then have him share carries, especially a RB that you'll be giving, what, 20 something million guaranteed?. Ricky will be gone eventually (I would be so happy if it was soon), and I'm sure that whatever we can get will only be able to help us in the 2006 draft

Yes he was a problem in the past and we know how he schrewed us. Bottom line is running backs value is not high. Shaun Alexander signed an extension because Seattle couldnt get rid of him and hes a stud. Edgerrin James who yes has been injured but is still young and a very good back also was unable to be unloaded. Those are some of the best backs in the league. When Rickys around hes at that level. I dont see us gettning much in return for him and I feel with him and Brown (if he ever signs his contract) can be a great 1,2, punch and we would be more effective than to get a third round pick for Ricky from like the retirement home of the nfl which is the Oakland Raiders.

Well, IMO, if we have success with both, and both guys can co-exist in Miami, I would think Saban would try to keep both. Obviously affordability is a factor as well. But certainly it's in a team's best interest to keep as many impact players as possible. You can believe that had Surtain not been looking for that big payday, he would still be here.
