Pat Yasinskas, of the Charlotte Observer, reports the Chicago Bears have signed Carolina Panthers restricted free agent CB Ricky Manning Jr. to an offer sheet. The Panthers will have seven days to match the deal or they will receive a third-round draft choice from the Bears in this year's NFL Draft.

Man, that's disappointing to me personally. I knew he was going to sign the Bears' offer sheet. He lives down the road from me, works out where I work out (in the offseason) and has done our Pop Warner football camp. I've gotten to know him personally and he's a good guy. I'm happy for him, but I hate to see him go.

Yeah, it's sort of like that. He's a class A guy. He was great with kids and pretty friendly. He also didn't have a really big ego. Last offseason he and I discussed Ken Lucas coming in and he was very happy to have him, didn't make excuses and seemed to have embraced being the nickel corner. In fact, he even introduced himself at the beginning of our camp as the Panthers nickel corner.
