Ronnie has shown flashes but for the most part has been good to very good on the feild. Ronnie seems like a class act on and off the feild. He works very hard in the off season according to all the reports. It might be to early to say he won't be an elite RB but he hasn't performed like an elite Rb.

Ricky is obviously a person that no team can depend on. I truley hope he has turned his life arround and by all accounts he has, but without knowing him personally it is impossible to say for certain. We won't know if he will be able to play for an entire season or even a game due to his past history. However, Ricky has shown that he has the talent to be an elite back. Besides Lt there might not be a better back in football. Although there stats wound up being very similar when the played together( ricky and ronnie) watching every game there is just something special about the way Ricky Runs.

I hope Ronnie Brown develops into an elite Rb because he seems like a good person and a person that you can let your kids look up too, but I'm really hoping Ricky comes back to play for the Dolphins an plays up to his potential. Go PHINS.

There is something special when they are both used effectively. RB to set the tone and Ricky to finish off a defense in the fourth qtr. Two different style of running that can co-exist with one another within the right gameplan. That is what we have; potentially the best running duo in the conference with RB and Ricky playing in the same backfield. I would like to see the kind of formations Cam would use to get both of them on the field at the same time. Formations to keep the D guessing on if it is a pitch out, off tackle, or an effective set up for the screen. Now, that will be interesting.

Good post. And I agree. Ronnie Brown has been just average so far. He has shown flashes, but nothing really spectacular. You can blame that on the Oline, the whole offense in general, or what have you, but he hasnt performed like a number two pick should. I am also hoping that with Cam now here, he will be able to get better numbers out of Ronnie and really bring his skill set to this offense.

As for Ricky, your right, we cannot depend on him whatsoever. But there is something that Ricky brings to this offense that Ronnie so far has not. And that is a spark. This offense really improves with Ricky in the backfield. I am hoping that we can get another year with Ricky and Ronnie becuase you cannot give Cam enough playmakers and I think those two can really be special in Cams offense. Might not be LT numbers, but between the two we should be close.

I think Ronnie will really excel under an offensive minded coach like Cam. They definitely have different running styles, but the nice thing is that they are both powerful runners. If we run as much as say the Steelers do, we are gonna wear down a lot of defenses in the second half of games this season.

Ricky didn't reach his elite RB status until he was traded to Miami and played under Norv Turner's offense. I think Ronnie will show more promise after another year or two of experience and a better offense. Hopefully a better offensive line too.

If Cam can get those two clicking, he will have no problem getting this offense going. And if that happens, our D should be really good and there yah go. Our qb situation is our biggest question mark right now. Thats what I am worried about.

Have anyone of you actually watched Ricky in his first two seasons in the NFL?

Ricky never broke a run longer than 26 yards in his first two seasons, while Ronnie, not only broke one for 47, but he smashed thru KC defenders for a 65 yd touchdown. Ricky averaged less than 4 yds a carry in those two years, while Ronnie averaged 4.3. Ricky 10 Tds, Ronnie 9. Ricky 7 runs over 20 yds, Ronnie 11. Ricky 101 first downs, Ronnie 90.

Ricky was not tearing up the league from day one. And according to how some of you evaluate Ronnie, then Ricky looked average at best, and he was also injury prone, and he also fumbled all over the place!

Ricky Williams DEVELOPED into a quality NFL Rb!!!!!

Just by the Stats alone, it should tell you that Ronnie Brown can absolutely do the same...........

IMO, Ricky's playing weight in NO just wasn't right for him. He came to Miami (at a lower weight), and that's when he suddenly "developed".

As for Ronnie, I'm hoping to see him return to more of the athleticism that he displayed in his rookie season. That seemed to have mellowed out in his sophmore season a little.

I absolutely agree with you. Ronnie has had only 2 seasons, he is still learning. To many people expect high draft picks to come in and perform at their peak in the first two years. It just can't work like that.

just do a search and look for all the other ricky vs. ronnie comparison threads

Ronnie has only shown flashes of his abilities for a number of reasons. One of those was due to a head coach who only wanted to give him the ball 15-18 times a game. No running back is going to be consistently good with so few carries. Someone already posted that Ronnie gets stronger as the game goes on and when he carries the ball more than 22+ times, we are undefeated. Unfortunately he has carried the ball 22+ times only 5 times.

The dependence on each of them is questionable, because of injuries and drugs. I mean even RB has been as clear as handkerchief about drugs and steroids, his mayor problem has been injuries. RW is a rock and during his playing time he has been an iron man with very few injuries.
IF Ricky may stay out off weed, his ability may impact very positive at our score, allowing RB to reduce the load and as result his heath may improve.

When Ricky was most productive for us was in the 2002 season. We have to remember that during that season we had Mark Dixon and Jamie Nails playing at a high level. We haven't had that kind of run-blocking the past few years while Ronnie has been here. I'm not putting all the blame on the offensive line, but it makes a big difference when you've got linemen who can run-block consistently. Either running back can put up over 1000 yards in a season if we can improve our run-blocking.

Great post!!!! I'll also add that the Saints also gave up everything and the kitchen sink to get Ricky, and we also gave up 1st round picks for Ricky......we did not give up anything to get Ronnie (that's why I always shake my head when I see the old "he's not performing like a #2 pick" argument). I agree that Ronnie should develop into a very good NFL RB, and we should all consider ourselves very lucky to be fans of a team that will HOPEFULLY have the runningback tandem of Ronnie & Ricky this year. It will be fun to watch. I think we'll be just fine with only Ronnie in the event that Ricky is not reinstated (although we will need a competent back-up running back).
