Maybe you missed the playoffs and how they made it to the big game this year. They stacked 9 in the box and made Ben beat them throwing. Ben is way better than last year and with the Steelers great O-line anyone can get 1000 yards and control the clock. When Ben was out and played injured was when they were losing this year and almost didn't make the playoffs.
i did watch the playoffs. regular season they ran the ball near 63% of the time. going into the playoffs, that is what teams prepared for and they threw the ball. smart coaching, but if it wasnt for bettis and parker, would they be successful?
lets look back. ricky retires, leaving miami no good RB.
what happened.
throw first mentallity and we had 8 int's returned for tds?
you just throw ben into the offense with no running game, no way he will be successful. im sorry but its all about the offense, and pittsburgh's offense is RUN FIRST. CONTROL THE CLOCK. it is easy to throw the ball on opponents when they have 8-9 guys in the box.

Those stats prove that they were a running team during the regular season...but as you stated...they changed during the playoffs...Don't underestimate the importance of Big Ben...That kid can flat out play the QB position and IS the reason that they are in the Super Bowl...He has lit up three good teams in a row, on the road... and in only his second year in the league. He will be a great one when all is said and done. I WISH we had a guy like him on this team.
im not doubting ben at all, i think he is a great qb, the debate is how they reached where they have gotten at this point. the team is all about controlling the clock, and running the ball with parker and bettis allows the team to be successful when throwing bc teams put everyone up at the line to shut down the run.
my argument is that if you put ben behind a sub par offensive line, with no running attack nearly as good as pittsburgh's, you put him basically on .500 team. no qb can do it alone, so i think the credit everyone is giving big ben is being overlooked by what the coaches and running game did to teams mentallity facing them. we must stop the run, we have to key bettis/parker and contain them. no team did that this year. period. seattle will do the same thing, 8 men up, man to man in the secondary. bc the running game is what put fears in defenses facing pitt. not big ben.
