Ricky Williams is an advocate of smoking marijuana and believes that the NFL needs to get its head out of the clouds on the issue.
Williams has said he left the NFL because he wanted to skip the drug-testing requirements that came with it. Now he's advocating the medical benefits of cannabis, saying that the drug helped him with the pain of playing.

Appearing on a panel of former NFL players (including Kyle Turley) at the 2016 SoCal Medical Cannabis Cup, Williams said — in a forum titled “How Cannabis Will Save the NFL” — marijuana became his coping drug of choice.

"I played a position where I got beat up a lot," Williams said. "A couple years I led the NFL in carries, and somehow I was able to recover through the week. I got to a point in my career where I realized, ‘I’m not going to be able to do this much longer.’

“The teams don’t care, you know, they weren’t trying to take care of me. So, I had to take care of myself. One of the ways I took care of myself was using cannabis.”
“I’d go see the doctor, he’d give me some anti-inflammatories, some pain pills, and just try to rest,” Williams said. “That’s it. ... I think there’s a better way.”

And that way involves favoring medical marijuana, which is legal in a handful of states with a prescription, over pills, which are legal in every state with a doctor's prescription.

There is a lot of serious medical benefits to marijuana. Pain management being one of them

won't be much longer til it's decriminalized in the US and i don't think the NFL will have much choice but to virtually remove it from their substance abuse policy....the player's association will make sure it happens, and i agree with it.

he would wouldnt he?

The fact he's saying what he's saying is not a surprise to me. I just can't believe people on this forum are agreeing with him. Sure, let Mr. Pothead lead the charge as to what's goid for the NFL. Yes I know for medical purposes it can be useful for some people. You tell all the players to start getting high and NFL as we know it will crumble.....how long till someone tells us that cocaine is good too?

Hey you don't have to listen to me. It is your brain and your life so do what you want. I've seen up close many people who started with weed and most of them moved up to other drugs and ended up ruining their life. Very sad indeed.

Then they aren't very capable of controlling themselves.

Wait , did someone just compare cocaine to weed ?

I'm sorry , but please don't don't speak on a subject when you have no idea what you're talking about .

I've seen up close people who started with a Whopper and many of them moved on to other fast foods and ended up ruining their lives . Very sad indeed.

It's like saying anyone who likes to have their occasional beer moves on to drinking a bottle of vodka every morning

I know a guy who went on from having his first beer to becoming an alcoholic .

Shame on anyone who has a beer , it's really bad you for ..... Indeed

It's amazing in hindsight that Ricky was actually ahead of the curve all along.
