I've been reading some of these posts and have seen Ronnie Brown compared to almost every running back (postive and negative) that ever played the game. Yet I have yet to see him compared to our own Ricky Williams. Ricky Williams (like Brown) was a high first round pick. Ricky William’s stats for his first year were 253 carries for 884 yards averaging 3.5 yards a carry with 2 td’s. Now while those numbers aren’t terrible, the Saints fans roasted William’s (expecting more from their first rounder) calling him a bust (just like we're doing to Ronnie). What happened next you might ask? Well Williams ran for 1000 yards his next year in only 10 games. 2001 he ran for over 1000 yet again, then in 2002 after being traded here, led the league in rushing, and finally in 2003 ran for over 1000 again, running behind an online that couldn’t block a high school defense.

PS- I'd also like to point out that 24 hours is almost up, so we better cool it or Saban might bench us for AJ Feeley.

how do you compare him to someone who hasnt played 1 down yet?

Did you read my post? I'm not comparing Ronnie Brown to the 2005 Ricky Williams, I'm comparing him to Ricky when he started out in 1999. I'm just making a point, that Ricky Williams (like Ronnie a high draft pick) started his carrer very slow and was called a bust (like Ronnie) by Saints fans who haven't seen enough of him to fully judge the man.

Nothing against Ronnie, but he just isn't in the same class as Ricky as a runner. Also, Williams has above average hands as evident by his career catches. Saying RB is not in the same class as Ricky is not an insult to Ronnie. It's just a fact. Ricky Williams is just that good and that dominant. He COULD be the best back in the league if he stays dedicated. He is still young and he is rested. I'm looking forward to him being back. He will help our offense take the next step.

You cant compare Ronnie with Ricky, not even close. Ricky is in a league by himself. I got hi hope for Ronnie, but is not in the same class of Ricky.....and I cant wait for him to be back.

Good point and to an extent I do agree with you. However my point isn't that Ronnie is as good as Ricky. My point is that Ricky started out real slow and had everyone thinking he was a bust. After about a year we realized that he wasn't a bust he just needed some time. Ronnie may never be as good as Ricky is, (or maybe he will be, we just don't know) the point of my story is, some of the best backs in history started out with slow starts. The fact is Ronnie Brown was thought of highly by a lot of smart football people (just like Ricky) and he may just need a little time to show us his full potential.

Rick is a very very special player. I have never seen a runningback do what he did in 2002 with such a bad offensive line. It was obvious his head wasnt in the game in 03'. Ronnie won't be as talented as ricky but could be as successful. IMO there are only a few rb around that possess the talent of ricky williams.
