Ricky Williams said:
"I don't expect to get back to where I was a few years ago," said Williams, who returned to the NFL after walking away a week before the start of the 2004 training camp.

"As you go through life, the key is to step forward and never to look back or get back to where you were. I am just trying to move forward and not go backwards."

...........most of you know that I completely disagree with having him on the Phins..........and perhaps I'm knit-picking a tad here, but Ricky's latest comments irk me.

I think it's great the man doesn't want to look back. That's fine, who legitimately wants to constantly be stuck in the rut of the past. Yet some of us have been questioning the man's heart and desire since he decided he wanted back. He's not really commented up to this point what he is set out to do now that he's back other than really general statements that most football players make........until now. The whole "I don't expect to get back to where I was a few years ago," just doesn't sound kosher to me.

A guy with passion to play again, would openly come out and say he wants to come back and dominate. Ricky's comments, to me, translate into "Ya I'm back, I don't want to be bugged about the past, just let me play no matter the result." Doesn't sound like lofty goals to me.

Anybody else get that impression?

I think that's been one of Ricky's issues with football anyway. He has always tried to stay out of the spotlight. I took his comments to mean that he just wants to blend in with the team as opposed to being the star. He can be criticized for a lot of things, but I think this may be an empty criticism of him. He doesn't desire to be the star of the team, and he never really has desired to be the star of the team.

i thinking you are reading too much into that statement...he doesnt plan to be what he was in the past, he looks at today and today only...he is here for the present and what happened in the past is now gone

OH so where all Shrinks now?????? I took it as he wants to be even better than he was 2 years ago. That's what I took from the "moving forward" comment.

Well I think Ricky has apologized and there is no sense in looking back...can't change what he did.....hopefully he will just play as hard as he can....I don't think most running backs return to form right away after taking a year off ....but I will be jumping up and down the first time he breaks one for 50 yards!!! :)

No. I hate behavioral medicine and dread my psychiatry rotation that will be coming up next year. I'm one of the guys that will see a patient that wants to kill himself and tell him "Go Ahead!"

Patient: "Doc, what's my problem?"
Me: "You are F'n crazy, now when do I operate?"

no it was just my opinion..is that ok with you?

unless that was directed at the thread starter, then ignore the post

i think that ricky is humble, and quiet. Hes never been one to go out and say hes gonna run all over a team. In fact, hes a pessimist. He'll much sooner say that hes going to have a bad game long before he says hes gonna have a good one.

We all know Rickys on another level. Just role with him, and dont take anything personal that he says. Ive been a suporter, and still am. Dont let things like this bother you, just enjoy him run.

How does "moving foward" translate into "I want to be even better?" Did you not read his comments????? The man openly admits not expecting to get to the level he was at.

Thats the way Ricky is. Thats his mindset. Its not that he doesn't think he can do it again. He just believes that the past is the past, and that applies to any situation, and not just the NFL.

........yet talking with SI's writer Mike Silver (I believe is his name) about 4 months ago before he came back, he said he's got 2 years and 4,000 yards left in him. That doesn't sound anything at all like "I don't expect to get back to old form" of which he recently spoke. Which is it with this man?

I posted the following a couple of days ago, where I just pointed out that I didn't think Ricky would ever be the player that he once was. I didn't receive one positive reply in return.
In 2002 Ricky Williams dominated the NFL unlike any Dolphin back had ever done before. Williams was the second coming of Earl Cambell, running for 16 touchdowns and over 1,800 yards, at a clip of 4.8 yards per carry. Williams then followed 2002 with another solid season, cementing himself as one of the top running backs in the NFL, which is something the Dolphins had not had in the last 20 years.

What most Dolphin fans remember are Ricky's monstrous physique and nimble feet, a unique and almost unstoppable combination for an NFL back.

I've got news for Dolphins fans who think that Ricky is going to come back to help Miami rebound from last year's 4-12 disaster... that Ricky is gone forever and is never coming back.

You would have to be totally blinded by Ricky's unearthly physical tools to actually believe that he still has passion for the game and is not solely concerned with the $8.6 million he owes the Dolphins.

How could someone that cared about the game or his teammates walk out a week before training camp?

Some people say that Ricky should get a second chance.

How many second chances should a person get? Ricky has already failed four drug tests, and has fathered three children with three different women.

I thought that Ricky was getting a second chance with the Dolphins after he was traded by the Saints.

Besides how can you give someone a second, third, or tenth chance when they went an entire year saying that they did nothing wrong? When Ricky was asked by Mike Wallace and 60 minutes if he was sorry for what he had done, Williams said with a smirk on his face, that he had done nothing to be sorry about.

On Monday, in front of his teammates and the media, Williams says that he is all the sudden sorry? I'm not buying it.

"I'm very regretful that people were hurt in the process and I do realize that to a lot of people it comes off as very, very selfish," said Ricky midway through his press conference. Williams isn't admitting to being "very, very selfish," he is only admitting that his actions last year are perceived by everyone else as selfish.

When asked why he quit, Wiliams said, "Why? Why? I don't know? I don't know?" Can you see Ricky's passion for football in that quote? Can you see Ricky's passion to win the Super Bowl in that quote? I can't.

He says his sorry, but then when asked if he regrets his decision Ricky said, "It's hard to regret it myself just because, you know, I had an incredible year." It doesn't sound to me that he is truly sorry.

I don't blame Nick Saban for bringing Ricky back, because the Dolphins have nothing to lose, but the Ricky Williams who ran for all those yards and touchdowns is never coming back.
Ricky did nothing, but re-enforce my opinions.

If Ricky came in talking about how he was going to have another 2002, people would be blasting him for not being a team player and for being selfish. What exactly can Ricky say to please some of you?
