Ricky's Use of "They"

Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams says he and the team will be fine during his four-game suspension that began Friday.

"I took a year off," he said. "I didn't miss it then, so I don't think I'll miss it now."

He said his absence will allow the Dolphins to give first-round draft pick Ronnie Brown plenty of playing time. "I see a lot of positives," he said. "They do have Ronnie. It's not like last year, when they didn't have a running back." [emphasis added by me]

"I'll sit at home with my little boy and watch on TV," he said. "I've never had a chance to do that."

Go ahead and crucify me for reading into this too much, but wouldn't you refer to your team and your teammates as "we" rather than "they"? This guy sounds like he's still out of the game in his mind.

And if you blatantly disagree, ask yourself if your need to have Ricky back to his old form is driving the bus on that. You may NEED to believe his head's totally back in the game.

In defense of the point you guys are discussing, Saban said a lot more about how good/bad those guys are/were last year when he drafted Ronnie Brown than Ricky just did.

He is an island to himself.Its natural for him to refer to everyone as "They".

He couldn't exactly say "We". "We" implies he was apart of the team, and he wasn't. It wouldn't sound right if he said, "We didn't have a RB last season"......

He knows he is not long for the Dolphins. Any which way he is out of here by next off-season.

I'm not going to crucify you, but I must say,... had he said it this way, people would be critizing Ricky for using the word "We", when he walked out on the team last year....They'd be saying "what do you mean WE didn't have a running back?, you walked out on the team!"...

you see what i mean, no matter what Ricky says, you can never get all the finfans in the world satisfied...

you guys look into Ricky's words too much....heck, I'd be more worried about the "missing football" comment more than anything....I could sit here and say "what do you mean you're not going to miss football!????" and I can start a thread saying Ricky will not miss football, and that means he doesn't want to really be here....but I choose not too, why? because I understand that he's not playing football, not because he doesn't want to, but because he can't due to his 4 game suspension......
