I think this guy is our best option, short of the senior bowl I haven't followed him. He was projected 20th overall before the combine and senior bowl and climbed way up, FYI. I've heard he throws sidearm, which doesn't exctie me...footage anyone??

Preferably NFL preseason

He climbed a little bit but where he was taken was ridiculous. Ben Roth was touted by pretty much the rest of the NFL as the 2nd best QB in the draft, and even a couple had him ranked Higher than Eli.

Rivers got lucky with the whole Eli Charger situation, so he ended up banking on it. Not to say Rivers isn't a good College QB, but we havent seen his goods in the NFL yet.

Has Marty Schotty ever drafted/hand picked a qb (like he did with Rivers) that was a star? That wasn't retorical, I'd like to know if Marty has ever actually hand picked a good QB?

He was actually considered a 2nd to 3rd Rd prospect heading into the offseason season.

I hate to argue but, I remember A LOT of people (Fin fans) wanting to take him with the 20th pick. And I think had he droped, Rick Would have took him.

why do you think he's our best option? you know nothigna bout him and you've never seen him play

Close your eyes, think back about every decent arm'ed QB in college that played decent to sub-par defenses in college and looked real good throwing for 8,000 yards against Po-Dunk University with 15 TD's. Then has a very good game in the senior bowl playing for the coach that drafted him. Another "Good sized, strong arm'ed, smart kid"... Other than that no I don;t have video of him.

Incorrect. He was said to be around where we were 19 or 20. There was talk of the Phins landing him at #20.

I loved Phil coming out of the draft. I speculated that he was the best player in the draft. But, if we keep Scott Linehan here, I'm not so sure we should bet the farm on Phil. He just doesn't fit in with this offense. The offense is set up for a very strong-armed QB, preferably with good mobility. Linehan can forgive inability to read through tons of progressions, because he already simplifies lots of plays to focusing only on one side of the field anyway. He can also forgive a lack of accuracy if you strike big on the deep bomb a lot.

That's all like, the total opposite of Rivers' game.

Sorry, but you are the one that is wrong. Pre-combine he was most definately projected in most mock drafts as a 2nd-3rd round pick. The combine results put him over the top and into the 1st round.

rivers was a late 1st roudner all the way up to draft day. it baffles me how he could leapfrog over ben roethlisberger

You find me a mock draft that has him going in the 2nd or 3rd pre-combine.

EDIT (DISCLAIMER): I am not a "trade our first for Rivers" Rivers supporter.

he was said to be the 3rd best QB in that draft. many people had their own opinions, some said manning was best, some said rivers, some said rothlesburger.

Rivers was a great pocket passer in college. he was a great player at NC State.

his performance at the senior bowl made him a well known name, and probubly moved him above Rothlesburger on some peoples list.

all 3 QBs were set as 1st rounders. (high to mid first rounders). and for the record JP Losman was said to be a high 2nd rounder.

i live just out side of raleigh. Rivers is a very good player and a very good passer.

In reality we're not getting him. The dophins brass has not shown the balls to go out and make a trade like this and I think they will find more pressing issues to attend to. They always do.

incorrect. Every mock draft I found had him listed in the 4-13 range. For a while he was predicted to go as a late first
