If the Jets slap John Abraham with the franchise tag, they may try to trade him and one destination could be San Diego in a deal for quarterback Philip Rivers, especially with former Chargers quarterback coach Brian Schottenheimer having been hired as the Jets new offensive coordinator.

Highly doubt it. I like Abraham alot, but the Jets simply cannot meet his contract demands. To me it's just one of those hot rumors.

It would be extremely funny though Rivers-Eli backpages and other propaganda.

Them not being able to reach his contract demands would be a reason to make this trade. He would get the franchise tag, and would be traded to San Diego where he would get his long term deal. Despite that, I doubt San Diego does this trade. They don't have much use for Abraham, especially with Merriman there already, and with the questions surrounding Brees, they'll want to hang on to Rivers just incase.

Merriman plays more of a LB in that defense, Abraham would be a DE

That is all false. Rivers aint going anywhere anymore. All trades off the New york press can daydream all it wants but since brees got injured they need rivers so they dont turn into a pennington situation. It much more likely they draft cutler either too high or try and drop to number 8 in the draft before detroit and draft him.

They run a 3-4, so he wouldn't play DE. He is way too small. He would be a blitzing LB, similar to Merriman.

The DinoCosta Show has learned through an exclusive source that the NY Jets & San Diego Chargers are set to make a Blockbuster trade.

The Chargers will send quarterback Philip Rivers, the 4th overall pick in the 2004 NFL draft, to the Jets, in return for pass rushing defensive end John Abraham. Rivers has been stuck behind Chargers quarterback Drew Brees the last two seasons, and will be re-uniting with former Chargers asst. Brian Schottenheimer who was recently named the Jets offensive coordinator. Schottenheimer is planning to install an offensive system that is similar in design to the Chargers current system - a system that Rivers is comfortable in and familiar with. Abraham has been miffed that the Jets haven't given him a new contract after proving that he could play an entire 16 game schedule as he did last year. The Chargers will slide Abraham nicely into their 3-4 defense that will also feature Shawne Merriman, providing San Diego with a terrific twosome that will give the rest of the AFC West fits. This trade makes sense for both teams and makes the Chargers "quiet" signing of quarterback A.J. Feeley last season something that was apparently done with the long term in mind. A big question for the Jets is what will they do with current quarterback Chad Pennington...should he be successful in returning from major shoulder surgery for a second time
Dino Costa is probably the biggest bull****ter on the internet...I don't think this trade goes down at all.

Why would they get rid of him when they aren't certain Brees will be back?

I think we're all pretty much in agreement with that comment which is why I don't see the trade going down...But who knows.
