Kory Robertson, a 6-foot-4, 345-pound defensive tackle out of Virginia Tech, told his agent, Tony Paige, that he didn't, "have the fire to do it.''
"I counseled him for a long time and told him he had a really good chance as an athletic, 345-pound man, but it's got to be in your heart,'' said Paige, also a former Hokie, and NFL fullback who finished his nine-year career with the Dolphins (1990-92). "I said, 'Where you going to go, a 23-year-old college graduate, and make the money you're going to make.' It was a bit of a surprise.''
Paige said that Robertson's decision had nothing to do with coach Tony Sparano or vice president of football operations Bill Parcells, and in fact, the Dolphins tried to talk him out of retiring. The Dolphins signed Robertson May 1, shortly after the draft. Robertson had nine tackles and 10 quarterback hurries his senior season.
