manager Frank Robinson thinks Rafael Palmeiro's statistics should be erased because the Baltimore Orioles slugger was suspended for a failed drug test.

"Where do you go back, stop and say, 'OK, when did he start using steroids?' To eliminate all that, and get the players' attention, you wipe the whole thing out," Robinson told MLB.com in a story posted on the Web site Tuesday night.

"Why put the burden on baseball to try and figure out where to go, and maybe put an asterisk? Just wipe the whole thing out."

I guess that would be one way for MLB to make a statement. I just don't see anything like that happening though. They chose to ignore the drug problem in their sport, now they have to deal with the fallout.

What about all the guys like Canseco and McGuire that were allowed to go untested for their entire careers? Sammy? Cmon, this whole generations stats are tainted, no asterisk or wipe out is neccesary, no player that put up huge numbers will be believed if they claim to have not taken steriods. I guess everyone wants a villian in this situation. Its pretty damn obvious everyone from Bonds to Sosa to Mac and on and on took steriods at some point in their careers. Its a shame that Palmerio who has always been a decent guy and good for the game is going to take the brunt of the assault and lose out on the HOF while obvious users like Sosa and BigMac go thru as heroes.
