The Rockets Report: Stro' Won't Go

The Houston Rockets have hit a glitch in their attempts to finalize the trade that would send Rudy Gay and Stromile Swift to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for veteran swingman Shane Battier. The glitch? Swift told the Rockets point blank that he would not report to Memphis. He walked away from the Grizzlies last summer to sign as a free agent in Houston, but his uninspired play has caused the Rockets to re-think the 17.4 million they have wrapped up in Swift. When the Grizzlies emerged as interested in having him back, the Rockets were only too happy to oblige.

So now that Swift is stubbornly refusing to go back to Memphis - and a player has 36 hours to report after a trade or the trade is rescinded - the Grizzlies have revealed that they have a bigger plan in mind. The idea is that Swift would not stay in Memphis, where Jerry West just drafted the highly-touted Alexander Johnson, but rather be a part of an additional deal. Swift winds up somewhere else, while the Rockets end up getting an additional player as part of the three-team package.

Looks like the Gay and Swift for Battier deal could not happen at all.

I still think that Gay will be a Grizzlie and Battier will be a Rocket.

Be awesome if they just call the whole thing off and Rockets changed ther eminds and kept Gay.

 Keep dreaming.

the deal will go through. The bucks were going to be the 3rd team involved, but the Ford/Villanueva trade went down. They're trying to convince Toronto to get involved with Mike James, but they do not want Swift.

The deal will get done though. Probably Boston with Wally.

I would love it if we get Mike James.

Mike James is a huge target for Van Gundy because he was at his house the mintue you could start talking to the FA's. James wants to be back in Houston because he has a family there and he has some close friends on the team. he also said that it doesn't have to be a max deal to bring him back. So that's good news because we can't offer him the max because we don't have that kind of money.

Gay will still end up with the Grizzlies and Battier will still end up with the Rockets IMO. Sad but true. I do hope that we can get another player like the article said. Hopefully it will be a young player.

I think the grizzlies are building a good team now

Pau Gasol is there of course, Hakim Warrick is going to get only better...with the additions of Rudy Gay and Kyle Lowry it seems they've found probobly there 1 and 2 guards there

Rudy Gay can't play the 2 spot in the NBA Budd....

He is a 3 and nothing else.

Tell me why not section? Hes definitely athletic enough, biggest question on him was he is not a great ball handler...apparently that isnt a problem for him either in both workouts with charlotte he showed off great handles, even jordan was impressed. Also with hakim warrick there playing the 3, someones gotta play the 2 and gay if he wants to can do basically anything he wants...maybe he'll play hard in the nba

He couldnt guard SFs in college....why would he be able to stay in front of two guards in the NBA? And given all those extensive minutes Warrick recieved last year and his general overall performance, I highly doubt he is a starter any time in the near future. He has a long ways to go.

you never watched him play did you...When he wanted he could shut down any player he played against, ask uconn fans...but the fact of the matter is he was very lazy in college...he needs to mature and his potential is sky's the limit

I get it....so in the tourney he just didnt want to play. Thats why he got torched in three consecutive games by players nowhere near his talent level. Once he gets his paycheck and realizes hes finally in the pros he will suddenly morph into a dominating presence. I mean there arent any Cambells in to pros....he wont have to worry about 6'4 SFs dominating him anymore.

This love affair people seem to have with Gay is just pathetic.
