I think his contract ran out after this season. For the situation he was put in following Favre acting like 2 year old he's done great. The only criticism I have for him is that he seems to have the label injury prone.
Ted Thompson did the right thing with sticking by his guy after Favre decided to retire-unretire-retire-unretire. Griese didn't look bad when he first took over for Elway so I guess that'd be something to look at if you believe the contract was premature.
