Saffold is 26, 6'5" 318 pounds, and was a 2nd round pick (#33) in 20 10.

Last year, he played 12 game, 557 snaps, at RT, RG, and 1 game at LT. He graded out at 1.5 on the run, 4.5 on the pass, giving up 0 sacks, 3 hits, and 11 hurries. He missed 4 games with a knee injury in Sept/Oct.

In 2012, he played 10 games, 621 snaps, at LT. He graded out at -3.8 on the run, 12.9 on the pass, giving up 2 sacks, 5 hits, and 9 hurries.

I'm guessing that he will get around a 5 year $25M deal, and cost cost roughly $3M for this year. I don't like him at LT, and the Rams thought the same in replacing him with Long. His versatility adds value for Miami. IF we sign him, a LT, and a Beadles or Asamorah, it would allow a draft pick at RT or OG, as well as a Brenner or Dallas to compete with him filling in the blank spot.

Overall, it would be a good signing, with an injury concern.

I think your contract figures are low. It has been reported that Saffold's camp is expecting a deal similar to the one Jake Long got.

Just because he can be a great guard doesn't mean he isn't a really good tackle... Think of Pouncey's situation. More value in leaving him at Center because guards can be found just about anywhere.. I'd put him at Left tackle and draft Martin to be our left guard. Sign Asamoah for the right guard position and draft Moses for the right tackle spot. 1st and 2nd draft picks shore up the Oline and get a super young group in free agency to grow with Tannehill and our receiver/te group. The rest of the draft use for bpa.

IF true, Saffold, his agent, and whoever reported this, are all OUT OF THEIR MINDS. lol

Saffold is not in the same class as Monroe, Veldheer, Albert, and even Collins at LT. I think he would be good at RT, and better at OG.

I bet he gets a lot closer to Long's contract than you think. Supply and demand

How much? :0 The demand at LT is not that great, and there are 4 better in FA, and 3 in the draft.

Yes, first things first - if Safford plays LT at all, then we are in trouble. Let's get the Safford at LT nightmare out of everyone's heads now. Try him at G? Sure thing. But he's not getting a premium contract. A disappointing training room warrior like Saffold shouldn't get a big check. I'd rather take another available G.

Name it. You say Saffold gets roughly 5 million/ year. I bet its closer to 7.5 million which is in range of what Long got. There are plenty of teams willing to pay for LT's. There always will be. Plus Saffold can and will play guard. We'll see in 2 days

Twilight Zone theme. Imagine if you will, Hickey signing Saffold for Long's money to play LT? I would chip in for a plane and banner asking for Ireland to be re-hired.

A gentleman's bet of a bottle of choice sounds good. Big Jake's contract averages $8.5M. His cap hit last year was only $4.25M. This year it's $9.25M, and next year it's $10.5M.

For our wager, I'm betting a $5M average, and you would be at $8.5M. Sure you want to do that?

Yeah. I'm saying his per average number is closer to Long's 8.5 than 5. I'm not debating whether he's worth that number, just what I believe the market will dictate.

For the record I hope you're right. I think Saffold will excel if left at guard and hope he's a Phin in 2 days. I'd rather his price be lower because if Miami does pony up 10 million per for Albert or Monroe, I don't know that they'd give another lineman a large contract

 I like how hardly no one on this board was talking about the guy 2 weeks ago and now that some articles came out saying he's a guard everybody knows all about him and think he can't play tackle... He played tackle his entire college career and all 3 NFL seasons... The only reason they moved him to guard last year was due to injuries..... He's a tackle and a guard if need be.

A small drop off, but not much and the pay would be about half of what Monroe and Albert will get, so it's worth it.

So, do we have a wager? I'll go for a bottle of Pinch. Your choice?

I like Saffold. He'd definitely eat up one of our guard spots, but even at 5 mill per year that's too much money. 5 mil for a guard that's never sniffed at a pro bowl is not a bargain no matter how versatile he is. Here's the reality though we are going to over pay at every free agent o-lineman we sign this year. Almost 3/4ths of the teams have some needs along their o-line and 5 teams have LT as the #1 need. Free agent bargain shopping doesn't start till after the draft so we will pay through the nose for anyone we snatch up now. We have to do it though we've painted ourselves into a corner. I just hope they don't hamstring our future too bad though.
