I thought I would do a five round mock based on our biggest needs which I feel are (in order):

- An inside linebacker who can tackle (the opposite of Crowder) :rolleyes2:
- A #1 starting WR
- A nose tackle
- A TE who can catch the ball
- A Running Back to replace Ricky

1. Brandon Spikes, ILB, Florida - Should be there when we pick somewhere between the 10th and 15th pick.
2. Golden Tate, WR, Notre Dame - Not the tallest WR but he can really catch the ball and take hits. We need some tough receivers.
3. Boo Robinson, DT/NT - Wake Forest
4. Ed Dickson , TE, Oregon
5. Chris Brown, RB, Oklahoma

i think i would rather have McClain more then i would Spikes but i wouldnt complain if we got eather of them

I like McClain more then Spikes as well, but I think he will be gone unless we pick in the top five overall picks. I would rather finish 8-8 or better and pick later.

Chris Brown isn't going to go past the late parts of round 2, highly doubt he'll be available in the 5th round.

neither mcclain nor spikes will go in the top 5. QB's, DE's, and OT's always go first due to their importance. dunlap and berry will be the first 2 defensive guys to go anyway. the rams need a QB, as do the bucs (who would take a DE if not b/c they have ruud), who knows what the raiders will do but they already have a MLB, the titans need a QB - you see where i'm going with this. mcclain will go b/n 10 and 15 and spikes will go from 15 to end of the first round. i see us drafting somewhere in the middle so mcclain will most likely be gone and spikes should still be there.

being the gator homer i am - i want spikes more anyway. i don't see much difference b/n the 2 and i certainly don't understand the knocks on spikes - i've been watching the guy for 4 years and don't see any flaws in his game. as far as coverage goes - the guy had 4 picks last year - so... the only possible knock that holds any water is he's been banged up this year for the first time in his career and has missed a few games. besides that - nothing. great against the run and pass, phenomenal instincts, hits like a truck, the captain of one of the most talented college defenses ever - i just don't see it.

if both are still there when we draft - we'll probably go mcclain - which is just fine.

GOLDEN TATE is one of my favorite wr's in this draft.

JULIO JONES and GOLDEN TATE are two guys i have on
my finz wish list.

i dont care about size, never have. can you get YAC and
can you SCORE! [getting open is a gimme, you cant do
either of these if you cant get open].

we need a DOMINAT, PLAYMAKING WR. and both these
guys have the potential to be just that.

julio jones is also a real good blocker. he is super strong
and agressive and that will help him in the wildcat.

I think McClain and Spikes will drop, not sure how far but I mean look how far Rey fell in last draft. It can happen due to need and after FA.

julio's staying in bama. next year getting him - or green - would be fantastic. they're both better than any of the receivers in this year's draft IMO.

McClain is the pick over Spikes, Tate is not the type of receiver we need. We need someone who has more size etc. Brandon LaFell in Round 2?

i agree we dont need another camarillo on this team...
We need someone with Hartline size, just bulkier, and can take tons of hits. Benn would be perfect, but i wouldn't take him with a top 15 pick.. which we may have. I think Erik Decker would have fit in nicely here. With his injury, we could easily get him in 3rd round.

Honestly, i hope we sign a FA or trade for an established guy. Normally I like to build through draft, but we need instant impacts, all of our guys are young. I think we need to pull off a big deal, then grab another playmaker in round 3-4, hopefully a vincent jackson/brandon marshall type project that pays off later, who knows pat turner could evolve into that guy..

we also need a playmaking TE, i don't know if fasano sticks around too much longer.

I like your first 3 picks, i think tate is a great talent, but I'd be alittle upset if we added another WR under 6 feet to the roster..

I agree. Decker is a guy I would like to see here.

I am not sure who told you he is a second rounder, but the draft web sites I have looked at have Brown going in the 4th or 5th round:

http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=64674&draftyear=2010&genpos=RB

Walter Football has him going in the 5th or 6th round:

Oklahoma_logo-1.gif
Chris Brown, Oklahoma
Height: 5-11. Weight: 208.
Projected 40 Time: 4.47.
Projected Round (2010): 5-6.

2/6/09: Chris Brown had an amazing junior year, rushing for 1,220 yards and 20 touchdowns in Oklahoma's prolific offense. Brown, who had a 5.6 YPC, also caught 15 balls for 109 yards.

Strange, I guess his stock may be falling from what it was last season.

Anyway, WalterFootball usually isn't the most reliable source until you get extremely close to the draft (like April). They have Andre Anderson, Brandon James (a 3rd stringer), and BOTH LSU RB's ahead of him. I can understand Charles Scott ahead of him, but Keiland Williams ahead of Brown is crazy. Chris Brown is having the type of season, behind a guy like DeMarco Murray, that warrants him to be a starter on the majority of college teams. He averaged 5.6 ypc last year, this season's drop in production is due to an extremely young offensive line, another reason Murray has seen a drop in production from last year.

I'm not saying 2nd round based off of any scout projections, this one is based off of what I have seen from Brown last season, and all factors considered, I see him going late 2nd, early 3rd round next year. He could be the type of steal that Steve Slaton and Ray Rice were for their respective teams.

I understand you used projections to base this mock, as many people do, but sometimes you have to see how things will factor in once the draft draws nearer. Brown has a great vertical leap, he runs a 4.40, probably will be one of the fastest at the combine, and he'll probably run the cone drills great considering his agility. I always like to remind people that things in the draft change each day, hell I remember at one point last season, when Sanchez first came out, people considered him as a 5th rounder (including myself). Word of the mouth changes things in a flash.
