Ronnie Brown at 2

Although I dont like Smith I meant trading next years first for a washed up RB sucks.

I don't like trading next years first rounder either, but neither of those guys are "washed up." You could argue that both had their most productive years of their career last year.

I do like the idea of just drafting a RB in the later rounds though.

I'm watching a syndicated NFL Draft preview called Countdown to Draft Day right now. It came on in Las Vegas after the Hilton Head golf. One hour on offensive players and one hour on defensive players. Not bad so far. Selected highlights and analysis by Ron Meyer and Dave Te-Thomas, or whatever his name is.

They showed RB clips and I'm still amazed Ronnie Brown is rated ahead of Cadillac by so many observers. Hell, the program itself rated Brown higher. Then they showed the relevant clips in which it could not be more obvious Cadillac has the superior agility, vision and athletic arrogance. I just don't want a one-move pony like Ronnie Brown early in round one.

BTW, I agree with an assessment the program just made, that Alex Barron is the most overrated OT. He is stiff and sluggish in the upper body and nowhere near the feet or agility of the top tackles in recent years. I like the Washington kid much better.

I agree I dont know exactly what everyone see's in Bronw to be so in love with him. Everytime I have seen Him play I wasnt so incredibly impressed, yes he does look good, no doubt about that, but Caddy looks far superior on the field IMHO. Yes I know Bronw can catch and block, Caddy has been working on that and that can be learned. Vision cant be though its natural. And thats where Brown lacks along with great agility. Caddy is a better runner, and we are talking about a RB not a WR.

Rolle would be a horrible pick at #2 imo. If we stay at #2 Id MUCH rather see us take any of the RBs over Edwards. I can understand taking Smith at #2 if we stay there though. I also dont think the 2nd tier players, especially Gore, would be as good as the top tier rbs.

Well if we can trade down with Tamps or Minnesota I'd be happy to pick up 1 of the top RB. But at #2 I feel their are more valuable players instead of a RB. Personally Alex Smith would be my pick if we have to stay at 2. Ciatrick Faison, Ryan Moats, or J.J. Arrington I believe all have the potential to be star backs. Its harder to find an elite QB or WR, or even CB then it is to find an elite RB. I think Antrelle Rolle will be a stud in the NFL, he shut down top competition in college (remember what he did to Larry Fitzgerald last year?) he can play the run, he has size, hes proven his speed. And he comes from a University that is known for producing stars. If we took Rolle he might not only be a great replacement for Surtain, he could even be an improvement. Thats why I'd rather take Antrelle over any of the RBs.

I think Saban wants TB to trade up 3 spots for Smith, which then might cause a DOMINO effect making Minnesotta trade up with the Fins new #5 pick and giving us their #7. Remember the Vikings got rid of Moss to get that #7 and take one of the big 2 WR's.....well as time went on Braylon and Mike have been moving up the draft boards and neither of them might get past #6 to the Titans. Hopefully we make everyone in the top 10 nervous and we use it to our advantage. At #7 we can still find one of the 3 RB's, maybe a top WR,Possibly The BEST Defensive player, or worst case scenario the best OL on the board. That doesn't seem so bad, right?
Hey, remember that the Vikings these past two years have been the joke of the draft. Remember that they were LATE turning in the name of the player they want for 2 straight years, making them move further down in the draft. They can easily get Nervous that one of the big 2 WR's will fall off the board before either of them gets to #7. The Vikings NEED a WR, and if we end up with that 5th pick and there's only one WR left MINNY will need to pull the trigger.
I dont have a problem with #7....as long as we're in the top 10 we're good. And don't forget all the 2nd rounders and 3rd rounders we've accumulated if we do those trades with TB and Minny.

BUT IF WE DO PICK AT # 2 OVERALL........

Let me clarify. My beef with Ronnie Brown is he doesn't get the cheap yards. Cadillac Williams does. I define cheap yards as open field escapability when you've only got one or two players to beat. Like on an interception return when it looks like the DB can score but he allows the last guy to bring him down. The crowd cheers like hell at the INT, but all of a sudden the opposition gets to put 11 men on the field again, and 1st and goal from the 8 isn't exactly a cinch. Meanwhile, an Ed Reed would have made that last move to pick up the cheap yards and the 6 points.

Ronnie Brown is a downhill truck with great hands, speed and body lean. But I just don't see him picking up the cheap yards in the NFL.
