I did not know that when Ronnie Brown signed his contract last year there was not a signing bonus. I knew there was somewhere around $20 million in guaranteed $, but didn't relize there wasn't a signing bonus. Just thought I would pass it along.

Four of the top 10 picks last season -- Miami tailback Ronnie Brown (No. 2), Minnesota wide receiver Troy Williamson (No. 7), Arizona cornerback Antrel Rolle (No. 8) and Washington cornerback Carlos Rogers (No. 9) -- received no signing bonuses.

He received some sort of 'bonus'. According to the cap page, he is due $310K in salary and $3,060,000 amoritized bonus this season.

Maybe Clumpy or some other capologist can fill us in on what the deal is (or was)

Brown received the richest NFL rookie contract ever for a non-quarterback after being selected No. 2 overall in the 2005 NFL Draft. According to the Miami Herald, Brown's five-year deal could be worth as much as $34 million, and he received about $19.9 million in guaranteed money. Performance incentives in the deal include bonuses for being among the NFL's top five leading rushers and earning a Pro Bowl berth. If Brown does not reach his incentives, the deal will be worth around $31 million, according to the Herald. According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, "the bulk of Brown's guaranteed money will come in the form of an eight-digit option bonus in 2006."

Looks like the signing bonus is just delayed a bit.

the fins dont like to give large bonuses up front to players in case they turn out to be like ryan leaf and because huge signing bonus's lead to cap HELL in future years.

There was def $20 million in guaranteed though...I think it's getting to be standard though that teams don't give the full amount all on the initial signing...especially with rookies that aren't use to having money.

I'm reminded of Dave Chapelle's crackhead bit where he describes what he did with the money from selling his friends' houses...took out a magazine ad for a huge crack party "Oh you should have seen it, crack piled up to the ceiling it was beautiful"

Ronnie Brown's contract has not been well reported.

He supposedly received a $2.47 million roster bonus and the minimum base salary of $230k in 2005.

There is a $12.243 million option bonus and $350k minimum salary for 2006. The option bonus is being prorated for 5 years.

"Almost all of Brown's base salaries from 2006 to 2009 are guaranteed."

It was also reported that he can earn $4 million more in incentives and he probably has escalator clauses too.

If I had 20 mil in guarantees, a bonus wouldn't be that important to me.
