Man did u see the hard running this kid was doing!! Yea his yardage numbers may not be that impressive, but Ronnie impressed me last night. I honestly believe he may be the best back in the NFL on the blitz pickups, man he was throwing LB's left and right, giving CPep tons of protection when he needed it. A good game doesn't have to mean 150 yards rushing . . . its the intangibles . . . the tuff running, the consistent blocking . . . Ronnie proved to me what I have been saying all alone . . he truly is the complete back . . he was even getting shifty on ya for the people who think he just is a power runner. From what I saw last night, if this Oline gets a little bit better on the run blocking . . . this is gonna be a bigger year from Ronnie than I expected . . . and of course he was getting stronger as the game got longer.

His blocking abilities are top tier no doubt.
He was running hard as well.
Many runs he was pounding to get just a few positive yards.

Many here say his knock is that he dosen't have good vision to see holes but you can't cite that in this game as their clearly were not any holes to hit.

I still think the kid is going to be just fine.

He's a special talent and like you say, his blitz recognition is pretty much 2nd to none. With a decent OL, there is no limit to the yards he can gain. It's whether we get that 'decent OL'. And he's punishing defenders for 60 minutes.

Ronnie Brown is a fantastic back catching out of the backfield.. The catch he made then running towards the left sideline to get a 1st and goal was proof of that.. Why the coaches didn't get Ronnie Brown into the open with catching the ball out of the backfield I will never know.. Stupid playcalling. I was so miffed all game long about that.

I think some of that falls on Daunte not making progressions. If you tapped or Tivo'd the game you'll notice many occasions where Brown had moved in between areas where LB's had vacated, was wide open while CPep had decided to throw into bad areas.

I think you'll see Pepper looking more for him once he views the film of this week.

And people question this guys ability!! LOL its crazy . . .honestly he may have the best pass receiving ability and blocking/blitz pick up in the league . . . and I don't feel like I'm over exagerrating.

I think the team was being still kind of precautious with CPep, they had Ronnie back helping on blocks alot yesterday, which limits his ability to be a receiver . . . I mean this was a tuff draw for the Fins offense the first week, and I thought they handled it well. As mad as we are at CPep's INT's and Ronnie's lack of yardage, IMO the offense exceeded my personal expectations . . . it was the defense that let us down last night . . . there the seasoned group, the line is the same as last years, and so are the Linebackers . . . and we just couldn't get any pressure on Batch outside of the few minutes in the third quarter . . . when u blitz and u can't get any penetration not one time in the whole game .. . . . that is bad . . .the PItt Line was fantastic.

I agree with everything you said. That's one thing people probably overlook about Ronnie ... he's a good blocker. I hear that Ronnie is a beast in the weight room ...that's one of the reasons why he can throw LBs left and right. He ought use that upper body strength more often to push DBs and linebackers out of his way when he's running downfield or trying to get that first bump when he's doing passing routes.

Once Coach Houck gets the offensive line doing better with their run blocking, I bet we're going to see plenty of those 20, 40, and 60 yard runs like we saw from him last year ....hopefully a bunch of those long ones like that 65 yarder he had in the KC game last year ...some of those Bo Jackson kind of runs. He's got the sub 4.4 speed along with the power running skills. If he gets better at spotting those holes as they develop and he gets some more of those Reggie Bush type moves, he's going to be unbelievable.

I've been thinking about that..playcalling..I remember last year when Nick was asked about it he responded that had the called play been executed, there would now be no discussion. None the less, I felt Ronnie would be a bigger part of the passing offense before the game and was sorely disappointed he wasn't given more opportunity. I DO know that I'm not a qualified playcaller but coming into the game I knew we wouldn't be able to run on them. They averaged 82 yards a game last year.. With that in mind I expected more passes to Ronnie... in pattern, middle screens, dump offs...I just did expect more. In MM's favor, he has to learn how to drive his new car, I'm sure all they things that bothered us will/are being discussed among staff. Everything is new, bumps and rough moments are to be expected for a while.

I've read these boards for about a year now and I just decided to register. So hello to all and yea, I also think Ronnie Brown is going to be a great back in the NFL. It takes about 3 guys to take him down when he runs and he is constantly trying to get positive yardage instead of just giving up and letting the defenders push him back. Ronnie was smiling throughout the whole game and was just having a good time. Give the guy a break, he did score 2 TD's and was going up against the defending Super Bowl champs who have one of the best defenses in the NFL. No need to be worried though, It's only 1 game and there are 15 more games to go. Go FINS!!!:dolphins:

did you also see the fumble on the hand off to chambers but polumalu was pressuring him and the oline didnt do a good job on that play but chambers made a positive out of it

Brown is smart as a whip as well. On the flea flicker, he must have seen Aaron Smith out of the corner of his eye because in choosing to take the hit, he probably saved a turnover.

Thanks for reminding me of that. It was a very smart move by Brown.

My take on Brown is that he has EXTREME physical talent. He can run very hard and break tackles. That is what he does best. He is also very good at catching passes and making things happen. That is when he gets most of his yardage.

But Ronnie's area of weakness right now is his ability to instinctively run into daylight. It seems like he is running into every player of the opposing team that he can. Some of that is because those players were missed by Miami blockers. But it also seems like Ronnie is trying to prove something by carrying two or three guys for two or three yard gains. That isn't going to get it done.

I hope that the coaching staff starts working with him on his vision. I hope they get him to start doing more and thinking less. He has to hit the holes QUICK. And the O-line has to back him up by getting off the snap FAST.

awesome sig sir drums

brown will be an excellent back for us, his strenth and power are definately there, speed is very good also. i must admit that i also find myself yelling at the screen for him to RUN TO DAYLIGHT!! he seems to like to hammer people hard, which is cool cause he does it well, but it will shorten his career and stop him from making some long breakaway runs. i really think r williams can be a very positive influence for him in deciding when to pound and when to be more elusive, cause ricky ran alot like ronnie his first 2-3 years and now is definately more elusive.
