The following question was asked on Mike Berardino Q&A about Ronnie Brown:

Q: I'm a life-long Dolphins fan from West Virginia, so I have seen a lot of Pat White. I was wondering if you think the Dolphins will try to keep Ronnie Brown this offseason, or if you think they will let him go and give the Wildcat to White full time. Also if they let Brown go in free agency, do you think they will make a run at Marion Barber? Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. GO FINS!! F. Tom Matteson.

Here is the Answer:

F. Tom, we are a long way from having enough information to make that call, but it is nice to have options. As for Brown, much depends on how he performs this season, if he stays healthy, if he breaks more long runs, that sort of thing. I asked Brown on Sunday about reports his agent Todd France and the Dolphins have had some level of discussions regarding a contract extension and here's what he said:

"I haven't even really been thinking about it. Obviously it crossed my mind in the offseason. At the same time, the only thing I can control is coming out here and playing football. If I do what I'm supposed to do out here, I think everything else will take care of itself as far as the business side of things. My main job right now is go out here and try to make this team better. However I can do that, that's my goal."

Would he and his agent set a deadline for getting something done? "Not really," Brown said. "We've got a whole year. I'm just focused on trying to make it through this grind."

Hopefully Brown is locked up before the season is over.

LOL. I guess Brown is a master wildcat qb . He is damn good at the fake. Yea Im sure he has not thought about his contract lol, good answers though I respect that. We should see what Brown does and if he takes it to another level reward if not give him a contract worthy of a 900 yard a year guy and let him take it or leave it. As for Barber he is not a free agent and is more overrated than Brown.

Regardless, he will be with us next year with a franchise tag. We will not let him go unless he has another major injury.

Well you said a big if there. Thats why we should wait. We gain nothing by resigning him right now. We get to fully evaluate him for a new contract and if all else fails we can franchise him. We hold all the cards and it would be foolish to risk anything by doing the contract before season's end.

I don't know if we'd use a franchise tag on him. Paying him the average of the top five paid backs in the league (some have HUGE contracts) might not be what the regime has in mind in terms of paying backs, especially if Brown is still splitting carries and not being an every down back (which is fine as long as we have Ricky or another capable back).

I think we will try to sign him to a deal that is long in years but not as much in per year money.

Letting Brown go and signing Marion Barber doesn't even make sense too me.:rolleyes2:

Agree 100%. Although I like the idea of locking him up for years to come. I want to see the knee 2 years removed from surgery.

Franchise tag for 2-3 years then it's probably done. Gives us time to get a replacement or two. In NO WAY do you give a big contract to a RB around 30yrs old.

We have had this discussion many times and I'll still believe that after the season the Dolphins will offer Ronnie a contract that they feel he is worth. Ronnie will feel that his value will be more so he won't sign it and the Dolphins will tell him to go ahead and test the market. If he comes back to the deal then fine. No way they tag him. Running backs are everywhere. The Dolphins will not over pay Ronnie Brown.

I imagine we will resign him. In the end he's better than most running backs out there, and we can't risk getting stuck with some crap running back that can't gain 3 yards.
